bastelfreak: did you really mean to paste https://puppet.com/docs/pe/2019.8/what_gets_installed_and_where.html#what_gets_installed_and_where ? that talks about puppet entreprise (not the open source version), and doesn't seem to mention EOL dates

i'm still confused as to where i'm supposed to find information about EOL dates in puppet, in general

for which eol date are you looking

imho, all support dates are tied to PE LTS. The moment PE2019.8 is out of support, puppet6 platform won't be supported as well

check which PE version has how long support, check which components are in that release

to simplify, puppet6 will be supported until end of this year, puppet7 until end of 2024 and so on

i'm struggling with updating the debian packages and i wonder if we should even try to package puppet (server, and agent) 6

i'm worried about letting our users down if we jump straight to p7
  • v

because then users will have to upgrade everything all at once

instead of staging upgrades like "upgrade the server then the client" progrressively

we've had a lot of trouble keeping puppet up to date in debian
