Hey Everyone, How do you check the soft skills of a Software Engineer? Meaning, we are looking for engineers who can take ownership, are proactive and willing to go beyond their defined role when need be. Any insights on this would be very helpful.

You may ask them for incident based examples to understand how they collaborated with team or customers to solve a problem. Or you may put across an example and ask them how would they work on it. Let them explain and you can read between lines.

Tech people speak less generally during interviews. So it is very hard for recruiters to understand their soft skills. A deliberate discussion is required to make then speak more.
