Stacker Customers

Question for people using analytics (eg Google Analytics) with Stacker: How are you using them? What kind of data are you recording and how are you using it?

Great to know this is an issue. I was about to embark on this journey myself, so this helped me to realise why NOT to separate out the tables in AT.  Also following this post to watch for ideas and progress :slightly_smiling_face:

<@U018GV7AYUV> Depending on your setup and how many users you have, you could have them as collaborators.

That way they could get added to all apps automatically. You would still need to have something in Airtable that would help link the users to specific Airtable records, but I believe it might be doable.

We would also benefit from avoiding needless account creation on each apps, and share the same user account across a set of apps.

<@U018GV7AYUV> You are correct—we don’t support open signup on Customer Access workspaces.

We could create a non-Customer Access workspace for you, but that one would be separate from your existing workspace

If the users are getting an error trying to use it, it sounds like it could be a bug. Could you get in touch with support via the support bubble in your app? If you have any screenshots / a video of the error that would be super helpful!

Will do. Just done a loom so will send that through. Just tested again and its definitely broken. It says the user isn’t part of the workspace whenever any new google user trys to register. Thanks for the reply

It’s probably possible to hide the button using custom JS or CSS

<@U03CY3BH3DK> Customer Access is a legacy feature that has since been replaced with Workspace Access. In other words, all users access their apps using the same Workspace link. This is true regardless of how many apps they have access to.

You can add a custom domain for a Workspace if you’re on a Pro plan. You can find instructions in our <https://support.stackerhq.com/hc/en-us/articles/4572058834835-Custom-Domain|Custom domain help article>.

Not doable out of the box, but doable with JS.

Here’s a hacky, non-thoroughly tested, unofficial way to do it:

You would need to replace
• “Page name from the URL” with the last bit of the URL that contains the page name, after the last / character. This makes sure the button shows up only on that page.
• “form URL” with the actual form URL
• “Test button” with the name of the button
You can then use the newly created ID to access CSS only for that button.

I would still need to adjust the CSS of “form-button” ID so that there’s a gap, but the bare bones are here.

Got this notice today.  Is it referring to Stacker? Not sure what other integration I use that uses this.

I don’t think this should affect you in any way just as before, but I’ll ask the development team to double-check again.

Can you confirm this? I received the same notice, and need to ensure that the Airtable attachments that are showing in my Stacker portal will not break as a result as this update.

Due to the way that we fetch data via Airtable at regular intervals (maximum of every 15 mins), we will always serve non-expired links. If your Stacker application has been open for a long period of time, it will automatically refresh the attachment links when we fetch new data from Airtable. This is a change Airtable announced a while back, and we already responded to it, so you should be all set with regard to Stacker — even if your use of Airtable itself may require some changes, depending on the use case (hence the email they sent). Cheers!

Hey <@U03P13ELULD>, if the schema of the tables themselves hasn’t changed, we could duplicate your app and then try to replace the sharing link with the new one on that duplicate. I’m not sure that it will work, but it’s worth a shot.

It's for notifications about the "Activity" tab on an individual record's layout. Once you toggle "Follow" you'll get notifications about new posts there.

Interesting. I was hoping it was a way we could alert users to new information relevant to them. For example, if a member had a new document ready for signature, it would be nice for them to see a Notification. Or if the value of one of their investments had been updated.

Can anyone think of a way we could hack this to work in that manner?

Probably not possible for Stacker notifications at the moment (although hoping the community might surprise me with a method!), but I've been using Zapier to send emails when a particular record gets updated. Not exactly what you're after, but may work for your users.

Yeah, we send lots of email through Zapier and AirTable automations. Just hoped there might be a way to use Stacker too.

As for us, it affects us on all our sites where we use Airtable as a public CDN. We mainly host logo images on Airtable and all those will break with the Airtable upcoming update. Hence why I’m searching for the easiest/simplest solution.

Sorry, folks! We’ve been looking into what might be preventing emails from going through from our provider in some cases. There isn’t any news to share at this time, but we’re on it.

We believe we have a fix, and are working on releasing it.

Fix is now live, and it seems to be working in all our tests. To those who have reached out with a ticket, I will let you know there too.

For anyone stumbling upon this thread: this issue was caused by an update to one of the services we use to run Stacker—we didn’t anticipate this update as a potential risk, and I’m sorry about that.

We will look to be more vigilant, and we’re growing our automatic test suite with every passing day.

A few months ago we hired a wonderful QA who has already vastly improved our confidence when releasing updates, but we still have work to do.

Thanks for your patience with us—issues are the last thing we want to see and we’re working very hard to avoid them.

<@U03E1HNJ3PB>, it's quite hacky but I did a simple upvote system using Zapier. You can see a video of it in action <https://www.loom.com/share/34022204afc8405a94dee16238b1759f|here>. If you'd like any further explanation of how it works, just let me know.

Issues with this method:

1. There will always be a slightly delay in the votes being counted while Zapier does it's thing, This could potentially allow people to vote twice accidentally
2. If you have a lot of people voting it could expensive in terms of Zaps

Hi <@U02GS844A68>, there's still a 15 minute sync time from Airtable -&gt; Stacker. It's instantaneous from Stacker -&gt; Airtable.

Alternatively, if there is data that is highly important to be updated immediately, you could use Zapier to instantly update a Stacker database from Airtable.

<@U03G3BA8ZE3> to expand on your last sentence, you meant Zapier can instant-sync an AT Base to both a Stacker Tables and Airtable-at-Stacker bases, correct?  We don’t currently use Stacker Tables, only Airtable-at-Stacker.

Hi <@U02GS844A68>, I just tested this and I was able to get Zapier to update an Airtable-at-Stacker base instantly (within Stacker). This then immediately updated the relevant Airtable.

But moving more towards having all Tables for a company all in 1 Stacker App, just to have everything with instant sync.

Stacker works wonderful for us when users are using an app and everything is in one app.  But we have so many things that we are now putting in this AT/Stacker framework (and our users love it compared to our existing older apps), that we cannot avoid to have more than one Stacker app and AT base.

Is there a workaround that is recommended?  Is using Zapier the correct solution for this?

Is Zapier cost-effective for such a role?  Each data entry transaction in an app, is then created as a new record in another app/base?   I presume that AT base sync would then need to be disabled?

I'm not sure if it's possible to use custom CSS to target a particular part of the navbar (<@U0146FKFCKE> / <@U02N890SW84> have you ever seen it done?)

This may not work for your particular data structure, but one way to keep a neat navbar is to use different views of data - IE in the below example I used different views of Contacts to have a dropdown nested under Contacts. (You do this via the "Duplicate view" button under Edit Layout. This is reliant on all the data for Contacts being in one table though.

You can achieve a cleaner navbar for the customer with roles. You can set which role has access to which menu item.

The only downside is that admins would see all of the items at once.

This would be possible with Zapier, but it could get  expensive for large tables.

As we rethink, having one Base/App for an entire company is doable, which would solve any cross-base sync delay.  The AT 50k record limit/Base then becomes a concern.  Any suggestions, appreciated.

Hi Mica, totally understand your frustration and this is not something we're taking lightly. The engineering team are working really hard to make sure an incident like this does not happen again. I would very much like to speak to your founders and your management team and provide this feedback. You can’t behave as a scrappy startup when you offer your platforms to people who run their businesses on it.

Either move slower OR lose clients like me. You charge significant fees monthly and your service currently does not reflect those fees.
