Well, the instant story is still a story, just with one path only.

Can someone clear this up for me? When a part is broken, and they have their reaction. Once the stage card is completed, do we go into refresh phase, or back to the same oathsworn phase we were in?

You return to the exact same spot in the Oathsworn phase and continue on until all Oathsworn are done with the actions they want to do or everyone runs out of Animus. Then it transitions to the Encounter Phase

Which, often makes it important to choose when to break a location. You might prefer to wait for the start of the Oathsworn phase, especially if escalating. If your Oathsworn are out of Animus, it could mean you have two attacks coming your way one after another. Often you want to have enough Animus left around so that after breaking a location, taking the hit, you can see the next card and reposition as necessary to minimize the hurt from that, etc. Lovely strategic part of the game!

Yeah… many times I’ve blown it, rolling a few unexpected criticals and broken locations when I shouldn’t….

As far as I know, you do not HAVE to roll extra dice when you crit, I believe it is your choice whether to do so or not

You're correct. You are not forced to continue on if you do not want to

Oh. OH!!! Hahahah...! Another rule I played wrong and which would have really, really helped!! Anyways... hope I remember these wrongly played rules when I get around to playing the updated game! Thanks!

I don't mean specifically "Everytime Juan makes it harder, I learn something", but I guess I also don't NOT mean it... we've all fallen victim to that learning.

We missed minor things too, that is nothing special. We came from a rather rules-heavy background (competitive X Wing), so we have the neckbeard-tendency to pay attention to may and must 😄 Oathsworn is properly worded and there are only a few edge cases, and the rules are logical and clean. Solid 5/7 😄

I wouldn't say X Wing is that heavy in rules. But the combination of cards and timings is no doubt a path down the craziness and a good learner for overview. 😄

I was heavily involved around the "good old 1.0" days, it was really crunchy here and there, especially due to some quality bullpoop later in 1.0 lifetime (cards came out that RAW did absolutely nothing). There were some heated debates I love them. Also agree, not Warhammer levels of neckbearding, but still. Fun discussions!

No doubt. I played mostly 1.0. Stopped shortly after 2.0 and didn't really got to learn the difference.
  • u

    Uruwiel

    03/01/2023, 11:34 AM
Yeah, 2.0 basically killed my hype for the game. The intentions were good, but the execution was just okay after the riotous fun that was 1.0. My main confusion came from, for example, the fact that some cards kept art of card A, name of card B and then effect of card C. JEEEBUS FLUBBER CHRISTO, that was painful for the veterans. And then the AMG acquisition came which is just....

All the FFG games have a similar language that you learn... hard to adjust to other game's dialects sometimes.

Yeah, same guy designed most of them, or at least the base rules came from one source. And yet there were serious differences that can confuse the living cactus juice out of you 😄 I am saddened by the destruction of FFG in general 😦

Yeah, good crew of people for a while. I used to run a larp for one of those designers when they lived in NY in their youth. I've loved the games and the growth during their peak. Hoping they figure it out.

I am playing with Warden. He gets to Battleflow one card for free once a turn. So say I have one card at the '2' position and two cards in the '1' position. Let's say I 'free Battleflow' that card in the 2 position. When it moves into the '1' position, do those cards in the '1' position flow to the '0' position as in a normal Battleflow, or is his special ability limited to the movement of just that one specified card? Thanks.
  • k

    KreenWarrior

    03/02/2023, 2:50 AM
assuming I am understanding the question right and have been playing right, Battleflows don't cascade
  • k

    KreenWarrior

    03/02/2023, 2:51 AM
you would only battleflow cards in #1 when you play a card with a 1
  • k

    KreenWarrior

    03/02/2023, 2:51 AM
not when you play a 2 and there's already a card in slot 2
  • w

    Wennington

    03/02/2023, 3:25 AM
Hmm, I'm referring to Warden's special ability - once around, he gets to Battleflow a card for free (without playing an ability card first). So if I choose a card in slot 2, it moves to slot 1 and that's it, right? (As opposed to card in slot 2 moving to slot 1, and whatever was in slot 1 moving to slot 0)
  • k

    KreenWarrior

    03/02/2023, 3:27 AM
Right, that's correct. But moving a card from slot 2 to slot 1 wouldn't normally move the stuff in slot 1 to slot 0 either

If an attack kills the last two boss enemies in a mission where there are multiple boss enemies (not minions, I mean when there are multiple enemies with dice that make up the encounter), do any reactions trigger?
