@Ananace in puppet-k8s in the kubectl_apply type/provider what for or how to use the "file" parameter? is it for something like "kubectl apply -f /path/to/file.yaml"?

It's actually for use with something like the Kubernetes addon manager, so that you can use the type to generate a valid resource YAML on disk for another tool to ingest

I think that part's used quite frequently in the unfinished self-hosted setup code, to generate the static manifests for the control plane

Hi all! Can anyone point me to docs on unit testing custom resource types and providers? Specifically to old-style low-level development method.

I'm working in an implementation of <https://dnf.readthedocs.io/en/latest/api_module.html|DNF modules> management, which I couldn't find in other modules. Details in <https://github.com/EmersonPrado/dnf/|GitHub> .
Would this go better into the existing <https://forge.puppet.com/modules/puppet/yum/readme|puppet-yum> module, or in a separate one?

I am not quite sure what needs to be added. dnf module doesn't require any additional configuration that yum module doesn't provide. dnfmodule resource is provided by core puppet, so if something is missing, imho, issue should be filed there

<@U2S1MUUQ7> As for dnfmodule provider for package resource, well, it's meant to deal with packages, not modules. dnf modules are a somewhat different beast, with different management.
dnfmodule provider can indeed do some actions on modules, but only when managing packages. We can't request a state in a module. And, from the above, IMHO, it shoudn't.

I saw this workaround thru package provider. It supports managing packages via dnf module, with choice of stream and profile. But doesn't support managing the modules themselves. And I believe finishing this support in package resource would become too hacky.

I'd advocate for dedicated code (in whatever Puppet module) because DNF modules aren't packages, so its management is substantially different.

That all makes a lot of sense. I just wanted to make sure you had seen the native support in case it solved your problem.

Yes, this uses native package resource, with dnfmodule provider, to manage PostgreSQL package. The problem I'm trying to solve is that package resource doesn't manage the actual DNF modules, only individual packages via some DNF modules point actions. And the package resource would have to be, IMHO, too much hacked to fully support DNF modules management.

perhaps the enable_only part there is wrong?

the same issue exists in ansible land too

they tried managing modules with the "package-oriented" dnf module and it's a mess

I do agree that it's a bit of an abuse of the package provider
