    Ignoring the numerals themselves, because that's a whole other beast

    The first thing is that numbers below an arbitrary point - usually about 10, but it changes according to personal preference and to some extent context - use the singular form after the numeral, and numbers bigger than that use the plural form with an extra word inserted

    Then there's the fact that certain numbers cause mutations to the initial letters of the words that follow
  • c

    02/10/2023, 1:48 PM
    1 causes soft mutation (= lenition) to most, but not all, feminine nouns 2 causes soft mutation to all nouns (the numeral itself also has masculine and feminine forms, but that's not relevant here) 3 causes aspirate mutation (= spirantisation) to masculine nouns 6 causes aspirate mutation to all nouns 10 causes nasal mutation (= weird) to some nouns to do with time, sometimes Depending on whether you use the decimal or vigesimal system, numbers above 10 (if you use them instead of the plural form with the extra word) cause varying mutations because the noun is said at a different point in the word than you might expect

    Example with ci (dog) and cath (cat): 1 ci, 1 gath 2 gi, 2 gath 3 chi, 3 cath 4 ci, 4 cath 5 ci, 5 cath 6 chi, 6 chath 7 ci, 7 cath 8 ci, 8 cath 9 ci, 9 cath 10 ci, 10 cath 11 ci, 11 gath or 11 o gŵn, 11 o gathod 12 gi, 12 gath or 12 ci, 12 cath or 12 o gŵn, 12 o gathod

    "Plural-Forms: nplurals=4; plural=((n==1)?(0):((n==2)?(1):(((n!=8)&&(n!=11))?(2):3)));\n"
    ..... pffft

    Also, 8, 9 and I think 7 can also do the random nasal mutation of time words too, I think

    at least we're not actively trying to kill Welsh as a language any more

    Combined with trying to get ŵ to display properly, doing interfaces in Welsh is irritating

    It's also an echo language, so dialogue boxes with 'yes' and 'no' don't really work

    There are words for yes and no, but they're used in a different context
