    like yoplala said before, users are willing to overlook or ignore smaller translation errors or limitations (like gender being wrong)

    Personnally I prefer actual haxeui system to .po . I don't understand how a string can be also an id. oh let's add some uppercase, oh now, we have to change all other files

    sure, i think ill stick with the
    {{id}}
    format... but i more mean the .po system

    02/10/2023, 10:25 AM
    and i think ill also create a format ontop of .po that is a little more concise

    po:
    Copy code
    msgid "1 comment"
    msgid_plural "@count comments"
    msgstr[0] "1 comment"
    msgstr[1] "@count comments"
    po2:
    Copy code
    comments=1 comment
    coments.plural=@count comments
    coments.plural[0]=1 comment
    coments.plural[1]=@count comments

    well, maybe not more concise, just easier to read 🙂

    i saw it, its just basically an empty .po file, right?
  • b

    bright-gpu-74537

    02/10/2023, 10:28 AM
    yeah, but, for all intents and purposes, it will change into a .po file impl
  • i

    icy-zebra-52882

    02/10/2023, 10:29 AM
    pretty much yeah, but the workflow is that translators create a translation PO from the template, add in their text and export it
  • i

    usually using something like POEdit so they never see the file raw text itself

    02/10/2023, 10:29 AM
    yeah, i mean, i would defo support .po... but personally, i dont like the format, so you can swap it out if you want

    id also want a way for the actual string source to be "pluggable" so i could, for example, grab them from a db
  • b

    bright-gpu-74537

    02/10/2023, 10:30 AM
    not exactly sure how that would work yet

    I'll have to leave soon, but it could be interesting to download POEdit etc to see which format it supports

    .po i would assume 😄

    I don't know maybe it's like csv there's also tsv then ;sv then ...
  • b

    bright-gpu-74537

    .po, .pot
  • f

    full-journalist-82607

    02/10/2023, 10:31 AM
    so maybe there's a prefer equal sign .po
  • f

    lol you're fast !
  • b

    so i think:

    * review the the locale system in general * make the locale system pluggable so you can plug "anything" into it (like fluent for example) * implement a proper .po system (and make it the default) * extend .po system with a new ".poex" system * some how get the strings from the db (starting to feel this is less useful) * allow translation files to be loaded at runtime (ive thought about this now, and i think its something that would be wanted)
  • f

    full-journalist-82607

    02/10/2023, 10:39 AM
    you forgot * make @icy-zebra-52882 write a fluent plugin ( oh I don't have to leave in fact)
