Okay! The company that I am onboarding at today has been calling my position both a Content Lead role and a Senior Content Marketing Manager role (they keep switching back and forth in the job description and the employment forms). I mentioned this to my manager and asked what was the job title. Her response was that either works for her and that I can choose whichever I prefer. So, my question to you folks is... which seems more senior and will set me up best for other more senior roles in the future?

Hi all, can I get some feedback on my Linkedin profile? Here it is: https://www.linkedin.com/in/conorthomaswalsh/ It's a work in progress, as I pivot from ghostwriting back to regular content writing and management roles. So, any feedback would be hugely appreciated! And don't worry - I have a thick skin, so please don't feel like you need to hold back. 😉 Thanks in advance!

For everyone recently who's asked about career growth and competencies in content marketing, this rubric was super helpful for me! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rGQDWSuf-Q-M0bhxF_gYMNfiU71540zMMgVkwZjkqz8/edit#gid=0 It got shared by Tracey Wallace (@powerful-salesclerk-66243? maybe?) in her email newsletter (which is definitely worth the subscribe!)

Hi all! Looking for some career advice/recommendations 🙏 I've been in digital marketing (mostly remote) since 2015, covering everything from SM, performance campaigns, LP creation, lead gen, etc. But I've hit a career path crisis as I realized some of my natural (more extravert skills) are not being used – leadership, connecting with people, managing projects, being result-orientated, not being stuck in repetitive tasks/routine. So I'm trying to discover the positions or job descriptions that would be in the interaction of an introverted 'working on my own' style and the extrovert marketing side. I hope it makes any sense 😃 I would really appreciate any tips ❤️

I am working on something and I need suggestions if you think it would work... So the idea is to create a Creative support agency - What I mean is that we'll be a team of designers, video editors, Animators, UI UX designer, content writers, illustrator and a bunch of creative sills - all of them offered in a monthly flat price for 160 hours (160 hrs are the full month working hours of a an employee) Our ideal customers are marketing agencies and startups, and we want to advertise it as a replacement of your next in-house team member. As in, instead of hiring your next full time designer, why dont you work with us and get an entire creative team along with a dedicated PM for lets say a fixed monthly price of $5000 (which is already less then what you'd pay a good designer) and getting 160 hours with the entire team. I think the success would lie in making the experience as much close to your employee experience and portraying it as an extention of your team, rather then making it just another external creative agency. Thoughts? Any comments/suggestions/thoughts are most welcome. Thanks a bunch! ❤️

Hi everyone 👋🏾, I'm setting direction for my career and would like some insight from content leaders here. 1. Do you need a content marketing background to become a content strategist? 2. Do companies typically hire for Junior level strategist roles or do you need to have built, say, a 5-year career as a strategist to get one? 3. What skills would you advice someone interested in a strategy role to build at the early stages? Can you recommend any programs? Thanks for your time!

Hi everyone! I had a question for all writers/ editors here. Someone has approached me to edit a 2000 word article in the legal tech space. I've been working in this space for almost 2 years now. But I was looking to understand editing rates as a whole because I have done writing for the most part. So, this editing would be more on the lines of creativity and integrating the entire piece together. The entire substance of the article has already been written but I need to review it, edit certain parts and integrate one section with the other for flow, and do a little bit of story telling because the topic can get boring. So what do you think I could charge for something like this? Also, I'll have to create around 3 to 4 LinkedIn posts out of this as a way to hype the piece. What's the best way to price this? Thanks in advance :) Note: this is not a one-off thing. There'll be a consistent flow of a couple of articles per month

Hi All! I'm a former English major looking for a full time copywriting job. I have been working for an agency that pays very little, but I've been able to build up a portfolio over the last month. However, I'm not sure how to apply for a full time position that actually pays fairly without having the standard 3-5 years of experience. I know I'm a good writer (not to toot my own horn) and I can learn quickly, but most people I contact don't really pay attention to me. I've been looking on LinkedIn, BuiltInSF, and Indeed. Any tips for how to get noticed or actually get the attention of a recruiter for a copywriting job? Maybe there's another place I should look? Or another tactic to have? Or do I just need to be more patient? Thanks in advance!!

Hey folks, I'm trying to get establish and get buy-in for a standard content creation workflow for our small marketing department of 5 people, and I wondered if I could pick everyone's brain. Our main issue right now is that no one can agree on who does what when and under what circumstances (so basically our entire process) and my boss is sick of hearing about "process" and yet we need desperately to clarify our processes. Does anyone have a favorite flowchart template they use for visualizing? Our project management has gone off the rails in the last month or so, and content creation as a result has slowed down dramatically.

Y’all, needing some support and an #insantycheck. Is anyone resonating with my experience? Any supportive thoughts or approaches I could take? Scenario: I'm Head of Content at a seed stage SaaS startup just about 1.5 years old. We haven't found our PMF yet. I create the content strategy that's revisited when needs change either quarterly or 2x/year. But I cannot ever get proper resourcing/people support to deliver on the strategy effectively. Instead, I have had two “managers” — a CMO and after she left, a Sr. Demand Gen Mgr who suddenly became our marketing “lead” but no one ever said I'd report directly to her. There's also the CEO. And they are consistently trying to get more and more out of me while never resourcing the existing strategy based on the dependencies I've defined. Everyone just uses buzz words and asks for more more more. The latest is “thought leadership.” It's a net new investment and I don't have the time or resources to deliver on it myself. The majority of the team is also Russian and culturally that is a major challenge no one in the company is acknowledging. It's to the point where I'm just rendered speechless when I'm brought into these sessions and asked to do yet another really intensive project or produce a level of content we aren't prepared for as a company and I don't have time for. P.s. my promotion to Head was what I'd now term a “quiet promotion” where I don't make more but am held to a totally impossible standard. The “lead” is not experienced in managing a team or process. She's also a Sr. Manager and I'm a Head, but somehow she's over me, the budget and has been trying to hire my staff. Her hires don't seem to know what they're doing, have strange availability and crazy time zones, and it causes major issues. She also becomes aggressive to the point of yelling when you try to give her feedback. I've formally raised a complaint about her and since then the CEO has just been in meetings with us assigning me more stuff after I'm the only one who contributes effectively to the brainstorms in functional areas she's supposed to be managing. I'm burnt out and can't have a life doing this and it's so strange to me that these people behave this way. I'm not sure what else to do but I just want to quit. But financially I'm just uneasy about it not having something lined up. 😫 🕳️

People in leadership/c-suite roles: What are the resumé "things" that make you disqualify a candidate? I started looking for my next content lead/strategist role last week, and while I'm grateful for the number of job offers I've received, I feel my resumé is not doing a good job at appealing to companies I would love to work with.

Hi everyone! I'm new to this community -- it's great to meet you all!! I'm between jobs and was just offered a freelance content role. I'm new to freelancing, but have been in the B2B content space since 2010. Would anyone be willing to chat about how to set rates? For context, I'm based out of NYC. I'd really appreciate any feedback! This is completely new to me.

Not sure this is the right channel for this, but I'd love to hear your thoughts: As a content marketer, I feel a professional responsibility to understand social media. But as a person, I mostly hate how social media makes me feel (got rid of Facebook years ago, but am still on Twitter and Instagram). Does anyone have insight into this? Like, how do you stay aware of how these important channels work and how they can be used for thought leadership and brand building without your mental health suffering?

Hi! I really need help figuring this out. I’ve been writing for 3 years, it’s been 1.2 years in B2B SaaS. I recently thought I’d go full-time and applied to a couple of startups in my city. For context, they’re usually well-off, seed funded startups that pay and treat you well. I get a call, get 2-3 rounds of interviews and everyone’s happy but then I don’t get the job. They want someone with more experience, especially in marketing. Usually they want someone who can write articles, guides, e-books, handle social media, formulate a strategy and has results to show for it. How do I become that person? I have article clients and they are happy, but freelancers don’t get to see the marketing side of things too much. I can’t stop working and intern in India, not financially viable for me. I could intern for a company abroad, for a subsidised rate. I’m so confused. My question is how do I get more marketing experience, and get people to see me as a content marketer—not just a content writer? In case my samples are the enemy here, here they are: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ZH3tg_neBniqUNFS1yo0RM_uHM1Z50si

Hi all esp freelancers ! Any platform recommendations for keeping track of invoices and businesses expenses where there is some connecivity with emailed confirmation receipts? What I mean in particular: if I make a purchase for LLC - I would like to not have to make a note of it first in a spreadsheet - I would love to have a way to keep track in a more automated way. Thanks!
