Hello SaaS Developers!!! This year has been a great one for our community. Our Slack membership has grown 1.7 times from around 900 to 1540, and our YouTube subscribers have increased over 8 times from 90 to 843. We also have a new newsletter with 1671 subscribers. Throughout the year, we've discussed important engineering topics such as databases, multi-tenancy, networking, developer productivity tools, platform engineering, CI/CD, APIs, security, authentication, authorization, billing, metrics, monitoring, and SLAs, among others. In the coming year, I'd like us to delve even deeper into these topics and continue learning about SaaS development with the community. We'll also explore what's next for SaaS and how we can create this future. While SaaS products have been around for almost two decades, the products we are creating today are very different from those we were building 15 years ago. For example, compare Figma and JIRA, or consider how Github has evolved. And just look at all the video recording and editing SaaS options that are available now. Modern SaaS leverages a wide range of serverless data stores and almost unlimited computing power, takes advantage of high-quality networks that reach every home and pocket, and utilizes the great advances in AI platforms. It is collaborative, real-time, and uses data and algorithms to deliver an exceptional user experience. So as we start 2023 - lets make it the year of the SaaS Developer! Here's to a successful year for us all!

Happy Friday 🙂 Just realized that I forgot to post the latest video in the SaaS Developer youtube channel over here.

    https://youtu.be/oi4nDjrZTKY▾

Gunnar Morling posted a question on tweeter about compute/storage separation and whether it prevents predicate pushdown from happening: https://twitter.com/gunnarmorling/status/1610203324963516417 Those are complimentary patterns and you definitely want them together. They appear contradictory because "separating storage and compute" can mean different things to different people. In this episode, I explain the various meanings of compute-storage separation, the problems it solves, the new problem it can create, and how predicate pushdown saves the day. Hello folks, have couple of basic questions 1. How to think of actors in saas, especially in the enterprise setting? For ex. would infra saas treat typical cloud infra teams as their users looking to be more user friendly than public cloud admin consoles or is there more to it? 2. Infra saas seems cool, are we also going to see platform saas or s/w saas? what would that mean? Not sure if they makes sense, would like see how this model is approached, if m thinking along the right lines! Appreciate any pointers, thanks!

I tried to look a bit into the previous threads, but haven’t found much so far. Have you guys discussed the interactions between a SaaS control plane and Kubernetes? In particular, how does the GitOps model plays out with a control plane? Any links on these topics are welcome too! Thank you 🙏 cheers

Hey everyone! Quick poll - Your SaaS currently supports: 1. Only multitenant SaaS* - data and processing is in our cloud, shared by tenants, no other deployments options 2. Default is multitenant SaaS, but we also support “self hosted” deployment where data and processing is in customer’s cloud 3. Default is multitenant SaaS, but you can pay for single tenant that hosted in our cloud 4. We support some “bring your own” model where customer can use its own cloud resources 5. We support whatever the customer prefer - multitenant, single tenant, self hosted or shared model (processing is in the SaaS cloud, data is in the customer cloud) * All resources are shared by the tenants (Vote by 1️⃣ / 2️⃣ / 3️⃣ / 4️⃣ / 5️⃣)

Hi everyone! I launched a saas product and desperately looking for people to try it out. I checked the internet an asked “what is the way to reach your target group”. Answer is “obviously” - ADS and CONTENT. Ads seem scary, feels like i might just burn money as i’m a newbie here, content - i have an idea of content and started creating but i don’t know which channels to use, how to test whether content makes sense. I’m asking people who have tech background but did marketing, whats the right way to do it FAST 😄 Sorry i can imagine how stupid this might look, but i’m looking for any source of information or inspiration 😄

New on the SaaS Developer Community: How Share-Everything Systems Fence Off Zombies! I talk about share-everything vs share nothing, share fencing methods and why shooting zombies isn't easy. It is the first time I have content-warning on my video, but I do use somewhat violent (although normal in context) language. Do expect nodes to shoot each other, shoot themselves, etc. Those are compute services, not humans. Just ones and zeros. The only thing that can get hurt is the SLA.

We are working on designing a Workflow in our SaaS Application. Example usecase is (actual business usecase is different. I made up this usecase to explain my problem statement.) - consider Jira like application where we want to provide ability to user to perform action (send Slack Notification, Email, Create Sub Tasks from predefined template) when Task status becomes "Ready For Development". I wonder if anyone came across such problem or if there are open-source / paid solution you know we can leverage or take inspiration from.

Hello everybody! Guys, I have a question about project support. We are developing a product for working with user feedback on websites and applications. And we did not hire support specialists. We created Customer Success, which began to work daily with each project, close 90 percent of the routine, communicate with the dour clients' developers be in touch throughout the day. I know that SAAS products try to reduce costs and their support very often does not work well and you need to wait a long time for a response. What do you think about such premium support, could it be an advantage for a SAAS product?

How do you pick keywords for your SaaS business, when you are writing a blog? It's not just about exporting results from a tool and giving them to the writer. There is way more to it. Here is my 4 step strategy in threads.
