We are going to be launching our service soon. This is in a pre-release mode and only for restricted customers (enough we can handle basically). I was wondering if anyone has shared/written about how they went about releasing / announcing it in steps ? what they did right / wrong etc. That would be super interesting for me.

Biggest take aways from the AWS SaaS Factory live stream: โ€ข Multi-tenancy is very much a security and access control game. โ€ข Multi-tenancy and security are much easier to get right when you are starting than after you have a mess and an incident on your hands. โ€ข A lot of decisions around security, compliance and tenant isolation are business requirements (sometimes a bit obscured behind pricing, costs, tiering and capabilities) โ€ข In startups, you know from day 1 that your business will experiment with things - tiers, pricing, tenant customization. There are a lot of known design patterns that give you flexibility, start with those. โ€ข Israel should be renamed "SaaS Nation"

I think everyone here is familiar with the 3 multi-tenant models in PG (silo, pool, bridge). Do you know of any benchmark that tries to compare the models in scenarios with large number of tenants?

Hey SaaSDevs, @Yeva Byzek published a blog walking through the first MVP product for Infra SaaS. Starting with a fictional company with ETL product, going over the problems they need to solve for the MVP and providing pointers to solutions: Multi-tenant DBs, data plane integration, metrics, billing, authz, etc. Hopefully useful for y'all: https://www.thenile.dev/blog/launch-infra-saas

Hello SaaS Developers, Exciting news! After months of not understanding why we can't get a nice YouTube URL, YouTube deprecated the old naming mechanism and replaced it with handles. I went ahead and grabbed https://www.youtube.com/@saasdevelopers for us. They let us modify the name, so if you have ideas for a better name (this one is descriptive, but a bit long), please share it here.

New on SaaS Community YouTube: I talked to @Felix GV about Venice - the new data store that LinkedIn recently open sourced:

    https://youtu.be/7KVw13ia6Rsโ–พ

We had lots of fun chatting about DB internals, so enjoy this extra nerdy episode. Felix shared a lot of great details about Venice built-in data versioning, partial writes vs CAS, query pushdown and other nifty architecture details.

Curious if anyone here is working on SaaS workloads with a roadmap for specific compliance frameworks or industry standards? I'm interested in what tools you used, early stage free tools like ones BoxyHQ has on their awesome-oss-devsec page (thanks @Sama), any of the compliance as a service provides (Drata, Vanta, etc.)

Product Prioritization Have you ever replayed a scenario in your head, where had you done X instead of Y, the results would have been the exact opposite? Product prioritization works in a similar manner. During the start of each sprint or while working on your product backlog, while it's exciting to list anything and everything that seems an interesting add, realistically, that's not possible. We use different methods to identify which feature gets higher weightage over another. But understanding the core objective of these methods is what differentiates great from good. All your efforts show result, the ultimate goal for any PM is to make the most impact with the least effort. Impact/Effort Similar to ROI, Impact/Effort is the core structure of where you lead the business towards, understanding where the impact lies is decided by understanding the goals to accomplish. So you might be using MoSCoW, RICE or KANO, unless you know the purpose of prioritization, chaos is around the corner. Connect with me on linkedin at www.linkedin.com/in/khurramkhalidiqbal

Is there a best practice to do SaaS distributions in enterprise world 1. Launching your entire cloud stack in customer's cloud account with limited visibility/controls options ? 2. Launching it in a mode where some core services are in your account which processes customer metadata, but rest of services are in customer account ?

Row level security is for customer tenancy. But how do you implement user based tenancy for a particular customer ? I reckon, you need here something like column level security here ?

I recently discovered a pretty cool SaaS for creating short explainer videos. Its a browser plugin, it captures all your clicks and creates a video with "chapters", highlights and text explanations. By far the quickest and easiest tool for video tutorials, and the result looks good. https://www.guidde.com Example of how I used it:

Extra thanks to @rmoff who connected me to Benn after I asked him "Why is everyone so excited about those data contracts?"

Happy Thanksgiving to those in the community who celebrate. I hope you get a chance to spend time with your friends and family. I just wanted to let everyone here know how grateful I am for your participation in this community - we started the community to give SaaS developers the opportunity to learn from each other, and this wouldn't be possible without everyone's contributions. I appreciate those who asked questions, those who shared their knowledge and those who regularly read our newsletter. I appreciate those who help me keep this Slack enjoyable by letting me know about spam incidents and of course a lot of appreciation to everyone who contributed their time and expertise to our YouTube channel - both those who participated in the recordings and those who pointed me to interesting topics and speakers. Especially these days with Twitter's future being a bit uncertain, I thank you all for making this community special and this Slack a good place for like-minded people to get together.
