Philosophical question for all you SaaS Developers - Do you see yourself more as someone who provides a service or someone who writes software? As an example of the difference, and the origin of my curiosity, I was talking to a developer who is against using no-code tools like Zappier to solve problems because they wouldn’t be using their software skills.

Hey Gang, Curious if anyone here has had experience with yugabyte db (self hosted oss, or managed, anything really) How is it holding up for you? Is it delivering on the promises? latency issues (read after write and such), just spill it all out... Bonus question: Did you move from MySQL (using their migration tool)? how was that experience It's not really on the horizon, as we are quite entrenched in MySQL for now, but I'm super curious... It sounds like the next level Cassandra (which I love), but with ACID(? really?) - so perhaps they deliver? I wonder how much a developer who is used to "regular" RDBMS (single master) needs to learn and watch out using this (the transition into Cassandra and all the eventual consistency models is a very steep cliff to climb) link for reference: https://www.yugabyte.com/ Danke

Need advice regarding EDR software: Recently we are using Checkpoint but it's agents are resource hungry and causing issue with deployed service. So we are looking out for new EDR tool. I am only tech person in the company and company is using external vendor services. And as you know like many vendors' they also pushing some tools which might not be good for our scenarios. And I have limited knowledge this side of tools/infra. Please refer to following points - • Hosted on AWS and load is not not high (currently deploying on EC2 directly but migrating to EKS) • Working on compliance and regulatory heavy industry • Do we really need EDR for cloud, isn't AWS itself handle it with good VPC configuration? • Is combined solution for laptop, cloud or mobile devices would be good to opt or need to go for specific one? • Is using open source tools for this purpose would be good idea given that we dont have specific people. If yes then please suggest good tools. • We need cos-effective tools which dont increase cost much based on number of server and devices • Points to remember and questions to ask to provider while selecting/buying EDR tools?

If you are starting a SaaS/PaaS targeted at developers (such as a database, queue system, orchestration engine, etc), at what stage would you start looking at selling through channels such as AWS Marketplace? Would you wait until there are a couple (3-5) live customers, a few dozen, or later?

Hello, What are the thoughts of building a single control plane architecture for shared, dedicated and BYOC ( bring your own cluster ) models ? A push design ( control plane pushed upgrades/installs ) vs pull based ( agents deployed on data planes pull software updates etc ).

@Isaac Askew and I have great discussion around MVPs in this week’s episode of NeverRewrite:

    https://youtu.be/mfOnNT9l018▾

We go in depth about the tension between
    viable
    and
    product
, how fear of rejection drives clients to build far beyond MVPs, and what you, a SaaS developer should do about it.

Has anyone implemented shuffle sharding amongst Kubernetes "node groups"? I recently came across this concept and thought that it would be beneficial for multi-tenant clusters - Kubernetes node failover behavior makes it susceptible to the type of cascading failure that shuffle sharding mitigates.

Anyone know where I could find a pricing plan for Confluent for Kubernetes? I'm asking because our (LittleHorse's) top 3 customer prospects all need an on-prem deployment (and two of them already have their own K8s clusters with plenty of Red Hat Operators installed) rather than a SaaS/Paas service. As such, we are thinking of just packaging up a LittleHorse Operator and selling it like CFK. Here is a similar page for what Red Hat does with AMQ Streams (the productized version of Strimzi): https://marketplace.redhat.com/en-us/products/red-hat-amq/pricing

Hey, can I ask for thoughts on domains for saas products and saas marketing. • I notice some providers use a different domain for the marketing site and the product itself (atlassian.com/.net, confluent.io/.cloud) - why? • Should org slugs go in the subdomain or in the path? I see both. Any advice from those who have gone before would be great thanks!

Question: Are there any SaaS products where a user can belong to only a single tenant? I'm thinking about cases where a tenant has many users. Are there cases where it isn't many-to-many? very new startups? enterprise cases?

What fellow saas people use for metrics? I’ve been pondering on various metrics tiers like: 1. ‘Throw-away’ volatile metrics for your systems monitoring. They are usually short-lived unless you’re a metrics brat and willing to spend your time on federated retention with downsampling (i.e have 24h or even a week worth of raw data and then downsample important ones for historic purposes). This sounds like a prometheus domain 2. Not throw-away non-volatile multi-tenant metrics for your business data and your clients business data. E.g some analytics or dashboard metrics that are important enough to have them persisted, but not very important to have them in your operational database. There are too many solutions here, but it can be summed up to ‘persistent prometheus’. 3. Mission-critical data, e.g counters and gauges you use for billing. This is important enough to use your operational database or timescaledb to have acid-ity guarantees. (I seem to be mixing general use time-series with metrics that don’t need a granularity that small, but there are still aggregate labels like your customer id, your customer’s project or entity category, whatever else granularity you might need that will add up to the overall volume) With all the trade-offs to choose from for long-term storage, there’s also a path to decide for collecting and ‘throwing’ your metrics. How important are your metrics that you’re okay to dedicate your kafka or redis to receiving them? Are you willing to lose some due to outage? If they are important, are you wiling to return an error response to your consumer because your metrics pipeline failed? Or are you willing to increase your data path complexity and store your metrics in the same transactional scope as your main domain? even if it’s then processed via CDC, it still adds to your complexity budget. I’m careful in considering ELT, because I can’t just add dbt to my airflow and then have it ran on airbyte with temporal that needs cassandra. Not that those tools are bad, but I’d rather just insert metrics data to the postgres table. I would love to hear how people handle these needs.

Hello everyone. I know we all take different online courses just to level up our skill set. While taking those courses you might have encountered some challenges. Some people have difficulty completing the courses while some have problems with assimilation. I want to understand the challenges you face therefore I need your contribution. I have listed some questions below we can start the discussion from there. What challenges did you face when taking online courses? How did you overcome them? What are the tools you have used in the past to solve those challenges? What challenges still remain unsolved? Your contributions can prompt others to create a solution for it. Thanks for your contribution.
