Strangely, I actually prefer the one second to the left, feels more natural to me. The walls are looking awesome as well, glad to hear that was Basilicum Grey as I've alreayd got that in my arsenal.

It should, that’s one of the 3 where the vines have more color in them. Contrast with one highlight for wood leaves a color gap that appears less natural next to a normally painted version

I use Vallejo for color, and mostly citadel washes. The “good” vines are sick green, washed with bieltan, medium drybrush of camo green, light highlight of escopena green. The other 2 are just warp lightning contrast with a medium dry brushing of escopena.

Ah, right so that's what you were aiming for, very nice! I'm jealous of the group that get to witness the horror that befalls them in and amongst that awesomely painted terrain!

I wish there was some official art of the houses. I haven’t found it if it exists

Some of the Oathsworn art should give you an idea of colours... Here's some examples from the 'The Lore of Oathsworn: Into The Deepwood' video.

Thanks, "natural but dreary" is pretty much the default setting for the game colors 😄

I used all contrast paints on my terrain and found them to be excellent. Basilicanum Grey for walls works great (also fur if you've not tried it - especially if you wash it with Drakenhof Nightshade). Plaguebearer Flesh wet blended into Wyldwood is amazing on the trees). Used plenty of Wyldwood, Aggros Dunes, Skeleton Horde on my trees too.

not smart to use it on so b8g models, that paintloss on your experiments😵

Nah, these are models that don’t matter if you lose a little detail through multiple coats so they are great for experimenting. Paints cheap vs the time and hassle of stripping something I care about the crisp model detail of

yeah you are maybe right, but painting the trees was realy no fun, more work 🤣

I redid 3 trees. I still have half a pot of wyldwood after they are all done. So I burned maybe $2 and tried lots of different styles and techniques at a scale that’s easy to judge the results, and I didn’t have to strip the results I didn’t like. Sounds like a bargain to me!

Sort of. $2 to not have to obtain and then throw away test models, or $2 bucks to not have to strip models? I’ll pay the $2 happily

No amount of thinking about it will show the reality of trying contrast for the first time, or glazing, or zenithal primes, etc

Contrast paints were absolutely the MVP on these walls and houses. Not going to win any awards, but more than good enough for the table. The hero’s and monsters can get the quality work

My 'pro tip' for anyone who's going to paint the trees - do the vines first then the bark

I can't recommend Google and looking up techniques and other people's ideas. These are basically the first things I've painted. The large terrain and bosses were a great start.

Homemade contrast paints (Vallejo Game Color + Matte Medium and Flow Aide combo) worked great. Zenithal priming is so nice with contrast paints. And dry brushing is magical.
