Big Deno (Trent Denison) walks through many of the player minis and their various armory options! Toward the end of the video he paints up two figures - one using NMM and another using true metallics

I am personally interested about the best way to handle the push fit pieces and painting... Just curious if there are any ideas here.

If you don't have the armory, and don't want to get the armory: Get some "plastic cement" and glue it together.

I've been watching his twitch streams. He hadn't got round to painting them yet last a watched a few days ago. His idea though was to paint one set on the model to get the lighting correct on the arms and weapons then use blue tack to stick that one to a ruler with all the unpainted ones and then batch paint those using the already painted as a reference.

One elephant in the room I wanna talk about Trent. "This is just tabletop quality" DUDE He does in 2 hours better than I can do in 10 hours. WAAAAAY over what I think about tabletop standards. /rant

He does admit in one of his videos (I think the preparing the figures video?) that "some people would think this is a bit better than tabletop standard" but yeah, totally feel you. He is far ahead of what I'm capable of today, but I also enjoy watching his videos because of that - I feel like a learned a TON from the most recent video (black & leather)

Remember, he has years of experience and practice behind him. His control with a brush is leagues beyond me. So yeah his two hours is my 10. But honestly, the only way to improve is to push above your abilities. Sure itll take 10 hours and wont look as good, but during the course of that time youve probably improved slightly by trying his techniques.

Truth is, what triggers me is not the time, but the fact that he called it "tabletop quality" and not something higher 😵‍💫

I can't speak for him, but based on other comments he has made in videos I think part of what he means by that is (a) he isn't putting in the time he normally would for his display-quality level of effort and, importantly, (b) he is purposefully painting the minis to be best viewed from further away than the close-up pics you take of display-quality minis

I understand. For me tabletop is either contrast/speed paints = done, or base, wash, minor layers =done. With his work, he's blending, glazing, airbrushing, etc. It may not be display level, but it is certainly way above tabletop quality.

Exactly! Usually when people refer to tabletop standard, they think of the regulated "2 colors minimum" for some events. THAT is the true tabletop standard. Trent is quality standard, whatever he thinks. Time required for that level only shows his talent.

Hi friends, thanks for the great comments. I am planning on doing a video for the Armoury, which I'll release in the series down the track.

And absolutely the term tabletop quality is definitely how I view these figures, I appreciate that my quick figures are at a reasonably high standard. That's years and years of practice and experience. Hopefully there is still some value in these videos for newer painters as well, and give them some inspiration to keep cracking on!

You know what, Deno? You're right, I can see the difference in quality between your oathsworn minis, and your bigger/longer stuff. But it just shows how gobsmackingly awesome you are when you take even longer, that's it. Geez, man

@BigDeno69 thanks so much for your videos. I subscribed when you posted on BGG. I bought paints a year ago and have been messing around with my Gloomhaven figures just to get some experience while waiting for Oathsworn. I appreciate all the advice you and giving and work you are showing!

@User i would suggest creating early rules for spoilers in here. Lots of monsters are going to be painted, and out of excitement there are going to be spoilers here

should I potentially create two painting-related channels? one for characters + first boss and one for everything else (e.g. spoilers)?
