I have already recorded all of those except for the Big Models and Terrain video, which will need to wait for my game to arrive! But I don't think I'll be doing any videos of the other figures as I dont want to spoil anything unintentionally.

Does anyone know how diluted one should make an airbrush glaze? Should it be diluted just like you would if glazing with a brush? Or should i just softly trigger the airbrush over the parts that you want to smoothen and dont overload the model?

Depends on the paint, but you want it to be well thinned. To my experience, it will shoot wet, which might pool; but maybe that is me being bad at it

Thx. Yeah ive also tried it out a bit and it does seem to shoot wet with too much pooling occuring. Maybe i thinned it too much though. Was thinking of using an airbrush medium instead of water to prevent that.

Might be good with a medium, but might just flat colors underneat. Really unsure with my airbrush mixes 😅

My recommendation would be to check the Angel Giraldez videos on Youtube. He explains the consistancy for airbrush paints pretty well. In general, always try your airbrush on a piece of paper or similar before trying it on a mini. If your paint is pooling or speckling it can ruin a lot of work very quick.

The frustrating thing about the airbrush and paint consistency is that it actually I'd dependant on two other factors: the pressure you are spraying at, and how far back your needle goes. You can use any consistency of paint, by adjusting your pressure up or down, or by pulling the trigger back less or more. Its probably the most feel oriented skill I have come across in mini painting. I talk about airbrush glazing in the cloth video I just posted. I also mix the colours on camera and show the consistency on some paper as well.

yeah it's also insane how different paint can be if you use it through the airbrush 😄

I have been cutting out sections in all the videos to focus on specific areas of the models, so I don't have to narrate for 2 hours lol

Usually I have no idea what colours I am going to use until I start painting an area and choose them, it's as much of a surprise for me as well!

A question for the more experienced painters - I have never tried out contrast paints. Now I am thinking about getting either them or the speed paints from army painter for Oathsworn with the hope that I could paint each monster box when it is time to open them. However, I already have a good selection of normal paints. Is the additional expense worth it? And what do you think about speed vs contrast paints?

Havent tried speed paints. But to answer your first question i guess that depends what you want out of your process of painting. For me contrast paints is a speedy way to get a decent result, to get a good result you still need to highlight and use other techniques anyways, but it also makes me a bit lazy as a painter so therefore i dont use them as a big part of it for me is the fun of painting and i lose some of that when using contrasts. Its also a question about finances of course and only you know about those. From the pictures it looks like figures like the smaller rats would be hard pressed with contrast paints as they have relatively soft surfaces which will require some other techniques to emulate the fur effect as the contrast paint will have a hard time pooling correctly on that soft surfaces. Which is the same reason i often think contrasts have issues on larger models as they work best when theres not areas that are too big, and since theres quite a few large minis in oathsworn i would at least expect to work with my regular paints quite a bit even if i used Contrasts/Speed paints.

I still think with the more textured large enemies, rats a prime example. Dry brush and wash will give a great and speedy result. I have noticed that more experienced painters are using contrast paints almost like a filter or heavy glaze, see Big Denos videos for an excellent example. I was put off by the expense of the paints to be honest so only have a couple so far. I’ve also seen that many YouTubers have an issue with speed paints reactivating when try to paint over the top highlights. Again no experience with them

This. Still trying to wrap my head around the idea of using contrast instead of wash w/ normal paint or inks

This is all base colors, ( not a great pic). With dry brush black tips. The detail work is minor, teeth eyes and some blood for the wounds. Claws just a touch of black to imply there are there. Took about 3hrs so I reckon brood mother and her kin will be fairly easy. Now the characters are another story....

Two issues with contrast that require more technical skill then you might think. 1) brush overload, very easy to put too much on the brush and flood the target surface. 2) Touch up - Contrast paint won't cover up base so contrast has to be done before any base, ( contrast won't even cover up a darker contrast). Nice paints, but not really easy mode

Base, wash, highlight is very easy technically and great for learning brush skills

But they sell it as an easy paint for newcomers, saying slap some on it and this is it 😵‍💫
