I started with contrast paint too Dry brush as last step does a lot of effect and is simple. Works very good with fur @Aether Monk

I did zenithal with Airbrush for the base colours then lots of careful dry brushing on the highlight areas. Then back to standard brush work to pick out details. Lastly I use Airbrush to glaze different tones and shadows

@AngusMaude oh that's nice. How did you do the wood? I've never painted stone before, but the stone on both houses that have been posted here looks really good. I've heard a base coat followed by dry brushing is the way to go. Is that what you did? Does it really get it looking as nice as that?

Yeah stone is is exactly like you said with a black wash as well to push the contrast further. The wood was pretty standard layering, just base and two levels of highlights, and a wash. The trick I've found is to thin the paint slightly more than usual and use super long and thin brush strokes to help sell the wood grain texture.

Super helpful, thank you! I've been working on upping my contrast so this'll be good exercise. I'm also consistently ignoring the type of brush stroke I use but the deeper I dive into the hobby the more I hear about it. Looks like I have a new skill to focus on.

Thanks for the advice guys. Didn’t use airbrush in the end as still a little nervous. Tails a little purple for my liking but overall pleased to have some painted for 1st game tonight. Now the little rats…..
