I was going to merge my PR for upgrading to the new RC version, ran out of time and had some bugs.

Although we'll be maintaining our project after the hackathon, so we'll add that in later.

I found RC to actually make my app more complex. The old setAuth method was way easier

Out of curiosity, what do you mean by "good amount of money"?

I bought a domain, and VPS hosting.

My domain was $15, and my VPS hosting costs increased $5 a month.

The project has a good amount of stars on GitHub, that's our motivation to keep working on it further.

To add onto this, I spent $100 for an SAT exam that I had the next week. I sacrificed time studying to make this, and I'll probably lose money that too as I'll have to retake it.

Yeah the time spent is where it really stings

I think that's the correct way to handle a Hackathon. I'm also a bit sad of not winning the money, but I'm extremely happy that I got to know this awesome alternative to Firebase and I also got to learn Flutter from zero on. I will definitely participate in the next Supabase hackathon too, as this was a valuable experience to make 🙂

If you have more stakes in something and lose it, it'll definitely hurt more. As much as I try to move on, I cannot ignore the fact that the submissions that won were extremely substandard across several categories.

i spent a lot of time on this project while i was on vacation, only for the judges to ignore the gameplay part of the game, which was like half of my team's work i'm a little disappointed, but still had fun and the experience was definitely valuable to me 🙂 guess if you don't want to be disappointed, you have to go into things like this with low expectations and only put in as much effort as you're willing to sacrifice

Is it fair to make that claim? The whole thing is subjective. That is why the judges are right no matter who they choose.

I really like your project! Do you intend to develop it further and keep the site up? At least I'd be using it often 🙂

Honestly, that sounds like their problem. Accessibility and UX are important no matter what 😄 I don't know where we fell behind, and what caused our project to not even receive a single mention. I'd love to chat sometime about this with the judges.
