i spent the last 5 years tracking my time and realized that it wasn't something i acted upon 😅 i find a 2 point scale works a lot better now. also less stress inducing 2 - i've spent lots of time working on work thats important to me 1 - i've spent some time 0 - i've spent no time i try to average at least 10 points a week

I was approaching it somewhat similarly: try to get at least 3-4 proper pomodoro sessions for what I wish to work on today.

didn't work out because I couldn't pomodoro properly haha

having a weekly goal to hit also sounds better than a daily goal.

That's something I feel I need to try. Looks simple enough to not create overhead but powerful enough to be able to reflect about productivity at the end of the week. Really cool!

If I would use that method lately I'm sure now I'd have weeks with -5 points

Same for me haha actually I work better in 1 to 3 hour chunks

I think the simple scale is nice because it also captures the quality of time spent.

I should experiment with the exact scaling but I already do a deliberate retrospection daily/weekly so this is something I can immediately adopt. nice 😄

yeah, at the end of the day, i find that its not the exact measurements that matters but whether you are able to use the information as a guide of some kind

    > Time tracking is not something that works for everyone. Forget about "time" tracking... tracking "anything" is hard 😄 . Even when you are super focused; remembering to record and log things consistently and reliably is difficult. It really shows how incredibly easy it is for us to get distracted and how important it is to build systems to assist us. (i.e. practicing and training is important, but not enough. You will need to create mechanisms to remind yourself to be consistent). It is frustrating because we really expect tracking to be "easy" and "simple", and that it should come naturally. It doesn't. Far from it. However, it is a great "skill" to acquire as it is the foundation of building good feedback systems for yourself, which return compound interest (exponential growth) over time. (Knowing what to track, and finding the right granularity to track isn't always obvious either... but we have time on our hands and we can experiment to find out what works, or doesn't work for us, if we accurately keep track of what we try 😉 )

(needless to say that solely relying on our memory to keep track of things is big mistake. 😄 . It is crazy how our memory fools us... all the time... and we are complicit in letting it do so if we don't keep good physical records of our own)

Immediacy is the key I think. The time tracking apps seem immediate and accesible but in reality it's not (for me). Pen and paper feels much less intrusive and immediate to me and even that I forget to check often times.

Maybe I should buy some stickers and stick em on my hand every time I put in a good session. Tally it up at the end of the day. 😄

Pen and paper work great. It is in the same vein as the question-answer: "What is the best camera?" "The one you have on you."

I created a github issue here, when I realized that webmentions helped fulfill a problem I was trying to resolve, yet I had never heard of webmentions! Definitely add to the issue I opened if it resonates with you, or if you thought of things differently: https://github.com/dendronhq/dendron/issues/543 - I previously used
    Disqus
to add comments to a static site, but didn't like the isolation. I late thought maybe I could embed the
    dev.to
comments sections into my blog, so that people could see the same comments on both
    dev.to
and my blog, while being able to join in on a conversation. But once I saw webmentions, that made far more sense: bringing together comments/discussion from multiple blogs, social media sites, etc. Seems to really jive with the Dendron approach of sharing distributed information

I'm kind of blown away that I knew so little about webmentions, let alone indieweb.org

We had an unusual winter blast in Texas a few weeks ago, but normally it's t-shirt weather most of the year 🥳

I had the same issue with most time tracking software. In my orgmode days I used capture+clocking in to make it simpler. Recently someone recommended the my time extension for vscode which works fine for me. You only need to remember to note what you did before you start something new. Works well for me but then I'm a consultant where time tracking is mandatory
