I tried org-roam but its database created issues for me with syncing between machines and also the support on mobile didn't work well for me. It took me a while now to replace the part of orgmode capabilities that I used but now I even found a replacement for clocking tasks

What do you use to replace that orgmode capabilities? I'm still a bit tied up to org for the agenda

I had stopped using the agenda for appointments a while back. I need that mostly at work and being in an Outlook/Exchange environment it was just too cumbersome to replicate all appointments so I used the agenda mostly for tasks in a gtd fashion. I replaced that with markdown todo files and the todo-tree extension https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=Gruntfuggly.todo-tree and partly the Kanban board extension https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=coddx.coddx-alpha . Since a few weeks I experiment with https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=fabiospampinato.vscode-todo-plus and I like it so far. For clocking time I recently discovered https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=codicelq.mytime (actually via this discord in either #742532267058004098 , #749641193322971238 or #757779937833779361). It doesn't provide all the clock functionality of course. E.g I miss clock reports to collect things over a week. However it's good enough for now and I'm sure I could create a report by using note refs but I haven't played with it yet. I used capture only for simple things and replaced that with a few snippets.

Man, beyond Dendron...realizing how powerful VSCode is...didn't realize there was so deep an ecosystem.... @User , how do you use Todo+ with Dendron todos? It seems its "Embedded" feature only looks for
    //TODO
    and not
    - [ ]
when it tries to collect todos from other files other then it's TODO main file

Was going to ask the same πŸ™‚ Also, like you, I'm surprised, in a good way, by how good VSCode is. I tried org-mode years ago, and recently experimented with vimwiki which I loved, but I found that I would need to invest a lot more time to use it as part of an efficient workflow (especially when it came to multimedia and naming files).

Todo+ isn't integrated with Dendron todos. I use a TODO file in my vault which uses the taskpaper syntax and that just works after creating a new file with
    Todo: Open
. I don't recall I did any specific customizations but I use it only at work so I can check tomorrow morning if I have anything special in a non-synced setting.

I typically have two editor groups with the dendron stuff in one on the left and the todo file in the right (yes I have a large screen ;))

ahhh... ok. I think I will stick to Todo Tree right now... I just created
    A/B/C
tags, and now I can easily filter any todo within the Dendron vault by priority....interesting...I wonder what is better to extract todos from all the Dendron files, something like Todo Tree, or the method @User shows here https://dendron.so/notes/593206ea-5658-4874-bafd-18a138870f91.html

As most of the time the answer is "it depends" πŸ˜€. I use markdown todos to catch action items in meetings or while drafting docs or brainstorming. And todo tree is nice to collect all those in a single place. However I somehow prefer to have all my next actions in a single file so I use todo tree mostly as an inbox to collect all todos at the moment. How do you create the priority tags? I was missing those and it sounds quite useful

Thanks so much for sharing Todo Tree! A tree / pane view is something I've needed without realizing it, and it's customizable enough that it fits in with my existing tag system.

Thanks. Did a quick search for de-centralised forums and found a few interesting solutions. Most of them seem to rely on blockchain. I am trying to keep it as simple as possible. The use case would apply to a group of people with similar interests (including organisations). It seeks to achieve the same benefits than P2 (https://wordpress.com/p2/), without being locked into a 3rd party platform. Matt Mullenweg (the CEO of Automattic, i.e. wordpress) credits P2 for a large part of their success. (i.e. 38% of the world's most popular websites run on wordpress.) Another issue I have with forums (and P2) is that they keep conversations in a one dimensional timeline. Being able to explore a conversation as graph would be more fruitful. A lot of conversations end up sharding. The shards hold a lot of potential for innovation, which don't get investigated because they don't stand out in a one dimensional timeline. All this is couched within the context of PKM. Gathering information from different sources (including conversations) in order to improve our knowledge bank. Interacting with information is part of the process of acquiring knowledge. When done within a group it can be more rewarding. I am trying to figure out a way of facilitating conversations and make it play nice with Dendron.

Yes, I discovered hypothes.is while researching this topic. It doesn't quite fit the bill for me. Really digging https://boffosocko.com/. He has done a lot of things right. His focus is a little different to what I had in mind but his site provides a lot of food for thought.

(My ideal solution would integrate with a version control backend to keep track of changes to documents over time.)

hi, i'm looking at Dendron, but for task/time management there are Task/timewarrior (https://taskwarrior.org/ & https://timewarrior.net/) although I like Etm (https://github.com/dagraham/etm-dgraham), but would like if Dendron would be decoupled from VSCode :πŸ™

Yeee, mastodont rocks. I don't use it enough sadly and content discovery is a bit harder because of decentralization. I keep going back to twitter for my "time waster" content xP

timewarrior seems interesting. How do people who track time... actually do it? most of the time I end up forgetting to record the start/end... after a couple of sessions and mentally it's a bit taxing to try to sit down and do the work + trying to remember that I need to track it. I know this is a deliberate thing so I think I need an actual reason to track time.

Time tracking is not something that works for everyone. I've tried lots of time but always ended up with 24+ clocks just because I forgot to pause tracking when I should πŸ˜‚
