welcome to the dendron discord. congrats on being among the first to join. as you can see, we're just getting setup 😅

what interested you in Dendron?

I've been in the Roam beta for a while, but I haven't used it much since it's proprietary and a monthly subscription.

I liked the hierarchical organization of data, but I'm just exploring the "second brain" ecosystems at the moment

One thing that concerns me about the "filenames as hierarchy" approach is the difficulty of restructuring the hierarchy. Is that something you've thought of addressing?

got it. i was also on the roam beta and had the same issues with it, which was part of the inspiration for dendron

for refactoring, we're planning on publishing some features that make refactoring hierarchies easier to handle

so automatically renaming files, and updating links

What are your plans around monetization? I thought I read you were creating a startup around this.

for monetization, planning on releasing added server side functionality

you’ll be able to use the client standalone for free forever

and publish it as a static site for free via github pages

if you want private pages and fine grained permissions under your own domain, dendron will offer hosting

there’s also enterprise integration with active directory and other enterprise features

Nice, I'm a mostly an Emacs user that has occasional flings with VS Code. This is mostly driven by the fact that I have to use Windows at work. That's one of the reasons Dendron is interesting over something like org-roam

Do you have an idea of what's wrong with the Windows installation? I might be able to help test it

one motivation for building in vscode as opposed to a standalone editor is so I could get vim support 😅

Yea, it would be nice if I were able to use the Dendron stuff in a window that wasn't open to the dendron workspace though.
