Just the feature?
Windows Server 2016 YES Enable the Windows Search service (the “service” not the “feature”)
according to jkindon's article.. This still good for 2019?
I don't htink it matters.. Search on 2019 is just a giant pile of dodo at this point

That article doesn’t cater for 2019 - seems crazily erratic at the moment, will update it once it stabilises

I am handling it the same way as in 2016. It is unstable though and even if the latest hotfix addresses some Windows Search issues, it doesn't seem to become more stable. I found a workaround where the Windows Search service is restarted when a specific event occurs. It seems to keep the WIndows Search feature working.

The schedule task work around deal?
For now i guess that will work for customers that jump to 2019.
k
Yes
r
Better than nothing
k
Indeed. However as mentioned I have not tested the work around with multiple users on the same server. I'll have to find a willing subject for that :D
r
@Kasper Johansen At this point, I can't even get basic search to work on 2019. It appears completely broken.
m
I’m finding it broken too, 2019 is a mess
Between this and the office 365 login password prompt not showing in RDS or published apps I can’t recommend moving to 2019
I’m testing the workaround for search now with the scheduled task, will write something up if I get it working
r
office365 login prompt not showing? I'm not seeing that.. well, i did during that o365 outage, but not again.
my ticket with MS is going SO SLOW.... 3 business days, no response...

I feel your pain Ryan. Its frustrating 😔

VERY frustrating

Fslogix team been working on a issue for us since beginning of December. Lost of memory dumps. At random times my 2016 servers just bsod. In the minidump it points to the FSlogix frx driver. They gave me a private hotfix. I am hoping it fixes it. My users are extremely pissed that they all of a sudden get kicked out. They blame Citrix. But its not Citrix. I often wonder if switching from UPM was the right move. But they had alot of issues as well. UPM is was alot to maintain for us with special apps and sync and mirroring. I believe citrix will get a full fledge VHDX profile like Fslogix soon. They have it for outlook, and for large files. But just not there yet. I love fslogix, but its very sensitive. I want to use cloud cache but i see others have more issues. Slow logins ect. Guess they keep people like us employeed lol.
k
I don't think Citrix will ever get a full fledged profile container technology. At best they will be a value-add to FSLogix
Oh and Cloud Cache is too buggy at the moment. Word is that an update in March is going to fix a couple of Cloud Cache bugs

Makes sense Kasper, Don't get me wrong Fslogix is a awesome product. But they need more help. The are taking on alot of customers now. I feel they are struggling some.
Thanks for that update on CC. I am about to setup CA server with Fslogix. Once i get through my Azure training. 🥴
Azure is like for me learning IT all over
k
Yeah, I guess MS didn't quite get just how popular FSLogix was/is/was going to be
r
Haha yea they didn't
k
What Azure course/training?
r
We are working with 3 party vendor who is helping us layout names, IaaS, extending our on prem to Azure. Vnets, NSG, resources groups and all that. Basically get ready to put in express route, and be a hybrid shop. Just alot of information and that everything is a objects is new to me. Trying to use PaaS for app services, and SQL where it makes sense.
While they assist us, we are doing the work, so its more like On the job training.
k
I am trying to decide with my self whether to go for Azure training or more specific Intune/EMS training
