TL;DR: Google is aware, and will be fixing it in a new release.

I searched all day yesterday and couldn't find anything. This makes me happy now. I was like man... wtf is going on. Cool, thanks Nick
n
This ties directly with my Edge channel question from yesterday. 😄
r
Makes sense. I hate chrome, and havent used in since Edge came out. I have to find the older download now.
n
We're going to be removing Chrome entirely from our Shared fleet starting in a few weeks. For Secured, we still allow users to install it via SCCM, though I think that's just dumb. Only Edge within Citrix now.

I could replace Edge's shortcut icon to Chrome's and these people would never know the difference.
r
My last place we went through and replaced it with Edge. This new place they can't seem to understand the concept of that Edge is like chrome but better in my opinon.
n
Just tell them it's Chrome with Microsoft branding.
r
I did man, they are behind in Technology some. I will get it in soon. I seem to have this issue in my career when it comes to get companies on newer stuff. Must be the way I present it.
I actually did that for some IT folks before. They demanded Chrome and just did not care about Edge being the same now. So I did just that, It was folks on my team so it was a small group. But they never knew until they looked at the version.

There is a certain amount of "religion" when it comes to internet browsers. Basically I don't care about which browser is used, but I advise my customers to only make 1 maybe 2 browsers available. You may have to spend double the amount of time you need to maintain 2 browsers and make both browsers as secure as possible as compared to 1 browser. If it's Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, it's almost the same policies we need, but if something like Firefox or some other weird browser is in the mix, you will probably also have to spend some time figuring out how the browser works and how to implement a proper security profile
n
We did use Firefox Enterprise for certain stuff back in the day, but it was not at all easy to manage. I use Firefox as my main browser at home, FWIW.
Still prefer how customizable it is.
r
That is one great thing about consulting, give them recommendations and deploy it. But you don't have to maintain it unless they need it vs working at a place and have to convince them weekly on what they should be using in situations like this.
But consulting has it challenges as well sometimes. I have done it a couple of times in my career. Only thing I struggled on is when they want some brand new that I never did. But then I would lab it up and build it out or reach out for help.

I am still not sure if it's good to only have Chromium vs. Mozilla. I was a huge fan of Firefox and still use it personally, however Chrome and Edge seem to be more integrated in the enterprise world. I remeber fiddling around with regkeys before Firefox admx came around while Chrome had that earlier. For my clients i advise to use Edge, since it's so deeply integrated in the MS ecosystem
Still using IE for GPO reports though 🤐
k
Stop using IE :D

Just wait until IE 13 comes out............................................................... I bet you are like WTF IE13... I am joking lol
🤣 1
k
IE11 is the last IE version
r
Yea, I was only playing lol.
But I wouldn't put it past them to do something wonky like that lol
k
IE lives on in WIndows Server and LTSC versions of Windows 10 though
n
I get LTSC, but Server OS? Pfft.
k
Server OS is basically LTSC out of the box
r
LTSC is server base. Yea what he said lol
k
Too fast 4 U @Ray Davis 😛
r
haha yea man you are super fast
k
And english isn't even my first language 😛
r
hahah
n
Just gives admins an excuse to stay in the past.
k
I agree that's why we have to make them aware of IE Mode
r
I think Server has a SAC channel as well. I remember reading something like that.
I swore I seen it somewhere.
n
We forced app owners to test Edge. Only if things broke did we add them to IE Mode.
👍 1
If they didn't test, Edge.
k
Windows Server Core has an SAC channel
r
Ahhh ok, I knew I see it lol.

It seems that the reported issues are fixed in the new version .54. Now the default homepage and any browser add-ins work as expected.

I had to fix my Chrome policies today. Google removed non-inclusive policies in v101. Basically any policy that mentions "whitelist," "blacklist," and "native." If you have any policy configured with those words, you have to re-do them. Download a new ADMX for v101, import it to your central store or policydefinitions and have at it.
r
Seriously, wow
m
https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/7679408?hl=en We block all extensions and I noticed two weeks ago the Acrobat extension rose from the dead and started nagging users to enable it. Our block was configured in a deprecated "blacklist." It needed moved to the more PC "block list."
Chrome removes legacy policies with non-inclusive names Chrome 86 through Chrome 90 introduced new policies to replace policies with less inclusive names (for example, whitelist, blacklist). In order to minimize disruption for existing managed users, both the old and the new policies currently work. This transition period was originally planned for Chrome 95, but was extended to Chrome 101 to give admins more time to transition their policies. In Chrome 101, the policies in the left column of the following table no longer function. Please ensure you're using the corresponding policy from the right column instead:
n
JFC, all of this for the names to be more inclusive?
This only applies to Chrome and not Edge, right?
m
to my knowledge
