Anyone running Teams 2.x in a seamless app in S19+? Based on what I'm reading, it looks like you're limited to basically running Teams PWA/Edge with no optimization. We have Teams installed in our desktop image, but you can't publish that shortcut as a seamless app.
s
you try this?
n
Why no, no I have not. My biggest question right now is how this even works for a new user who has no profile and has never launched Teams. Gonna try this now.
s
it's part of the msix provisioning process at logon
n
Ah, so this is from an App Package in DaaS? Where you create the source share, then add the Teams MSIX?
Actually that can't be it because those don't provide app path/command line arguments.
Nah, that's just not launching for us at all.
s
i blieve you can provision teams that way as well, but i'm just install teams machine wide natively on an image, and then using the screenshot values for app path/command line args. It's possible it acts differently with server 2025, but i didn't think so
n
Yeah, seems to. Not launching at all for me in an image where Teams is already installed.
s
and if you launch a desktop on that server you see it in the start menu and can launch it ok? You followed this for the specific server 2019 stuff? https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/teams-client-vdi-requirements-deploy
try to use those that screenshot via command line from a desktop, that launches?
n
Yeah, everything works as expected on S25 desktop. I actually got it to launch using shell:AppsFolder\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe!MSTeams as the application, but threw a weird Citrix error before getting there.
Did not test that with a new profile, though.
s
so they were uploading the app package and publishing that way?
what vda version are you at?
n
2402 CU2 in that S19 image. Not sure if it's even working, they were still testing.
s
just not 100% if the app package import through studio works on 2019, maybe others can chime in...i'd follow the specific server 2019 teams install procedure from the microsoft website though, especially if that app package method isn't working
n
Yeah, we've got Teams installed in S19 just fine, but we've been using it for desktop users. Trying to see if we can use the App Packages method for published apps.
Okay, so I got it working in S19 using UWALauncher.exe with no working directory. My next big dilemma... how the f do you exit this? Teams is set to stay running on hitting the X
c
I use ms team v2 as a seamless app with no issues I use uwalauncher. I use ivanti to edit the JSON file to close on exit
n
JSON... giving me flashbacks of Classic Teams
c
image.png
n
Can you prestage that entire file like you could in Classic Teams?
c
nah you cant copy it in 😞 hence why i had to do it this method
n
ugh. So we'd have to use WEM to run an external task to do this
Not seeing that value in my JSON, hmm
c
thats my teams published app command line
n
Yep, that's what I'm using now
Nevermind, I'm an idiot and cannot type today. I see it.
c
The other method i tested was this way but you have to grant users perms to that directory. I found the UWAlauncher method easier
n
Definitely. For the JSON modification, I assume this only takes effect on the 2nd+ logon? I modified the JSON and saved it, and it still closes to tray.
Did you have to do anything else for this, like add Teams to LogoffCheckSysModules? I exited Teams and my session is still sitting open.
c
yeah only kicks in on 2nd logon let me check my logoffchecksysmodules
n
@c4rm0: Sorry for the barrage of questions, but what are you roaming for this? Same stuff you'd roam for Teams for desktop users? That is my assumption.
c
i exclude these <Exclude Copy="0">AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams\Logs</Exclude> <Exclude Copy="0">AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams\PerfLogs</Exclude> <Exclude Copy="0">AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams\PerfLog</Exclude> <Exclude Copy="0">AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams\EBWebView\WV2Profile_tfw\WebStorage</Exclude> <Exclude Copy="0">AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams\EBWebView\WV2Profile_tfw\GPUCache</Exclude> <Exclude Copy="0">AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams\EBWebView\WV2Profile_tfw\Service Worker\CacheStorage</Exclude> <Exclude Copy="0">AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams\EBWebView\WV2Profile_tfw\Code Cache</Exclude> <Exclude Copy="0">AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams\EBWebView\WV2Profile_tfw\IndexedDB</Exclude> <Exclude Copy="0">AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams\EBWebView\WV2Profile_tfw\Cache</Exclude> <Exclude Copy="0">AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams\EBWebView\WV2Profile_tfw\Shared Dictionary</Exclude> <Exclude Copy="0">AppData\Local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\TokenBroker</Exclude>
n
Okay, those look like the same as ours. Something is definitely up with our session not dropping when you close Teams, though.
c
yeah i think that is why i had to use the keep_app_running_on_close and set to false as it was leaving the ms-teams.exe running in the session and it wouldnt log off
image.png
n
I used the system tray icon to exit Teams which worked, but the session stayed open. Weird.
c
i use the seamless flags reg value to block system tray icons so dont get the teams icon so couldnt even close it that way
n
wait, seamless flag reg value?
c
image.png
that value hides any server side tray icons client side eg pvs status tray / outlook / teams ect
n
I haven't seen that key in years, lol
Don't think that'd work for us since the same image would also be hosting desktop users. Since you're applying via GPP, sounds like it doesn't need to be baked into the image?
s
hmmmm, i might steal that seamless flag for onedrive status icon...thats set on the endpoint or vda?
citrix wants you to separate your VDAs, for those that launch desktops and those that launch apps...
you can get away with keepign them together, but you'll find that you cant do some things...like this
n
It
c
on the VDA i set it via GPP. I have deleted it as a test on a VDA and logged off/on and you then get all the server side tray icons, gpupdate /force key gets put back and logged off/on and then no tray icons
n
It's a battle between doing what's right and doing what leadership wants
s
let's give them what they want, but hope they want what they get 🙂
c
the only thing that annoys me with it is the outlook icon (cant do test autodiscover ect)
👍 1
n
lol
I'm going to have to dive deeper into this because the Teams process is absolutely exiting, yet the session remains. Don't think SeamlessFlags will matter for this.
s
check director or task manager for open processes
c
i checked my logoffchecksysmodules i dont have any specific for ms teams
n
I did...e verything was open except teams, lmao
s
yeah, most likely something else in run reg keys
we have sep DGs for apps vs desktops, and on the app side we remove all the run reg keys, for that exact reason
c
image.png
s
i miss ivanti
EM is the bomb
n
What is that key for?
s
controlling auto start of teams on logon
for instanece, they launch a pub app that isn't teams, do you want teams starting
n
ah fuck
bring me the creator of teams to kick
💯 1
c
auto launch of teams on logon the other crap is i had legacy teams crap in the profiles (i had to migrate from 2016 to 2022 image as ms teams v2 didnt work on 2016 and retained same fslogix profiles so had to clean all the old legacy teams crap
n
So setting that to 1 prevents autostart
c
yeah
n
Awesome. I appreciate all of this, BTW.
that page is going to be your best friend
n
I have read that page so many times that I forget half of its contents at this point
Once we got S25 working I tried to wipe it from memory
s
dont forget Location: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Teams Name: disableAutoUpdate Type: DWORD Value: 1
for non persistent
n
Yep, that's in my install script.
Which let me tell you was fun with all of the nonsense in S19.
Two separate MS KBs, the MS Teams native utility, etc. Lots of fun.
c
XenDpriv.exe,acrotray.exe,ISXAgent.exe,ISXAgent64.exe,sftdcc.exe,splwow64.exe,sfttray.exe,AppVShNotify.exe,AppVShNotify_orignal.exe,AppVStreamingUX.exe,AppVStreamingUX_orignal.exe,cognosrcp.exe,GPSViewer.exe,ccSvcHst.exe,RBRWSC.exe,ISXAgentBridge.exe,StatusTray.exe,analyticssrv.exe,concentr.exe,receiver.exe,selfserviceplugin.exe,msedgewebview2.exe,ISXSendKeysProc.exe,CtxMTHost.exe,AdobeCollabSync.exe,wfshell.exe
thats my logoffchecksysmodules nothing specific for ms-teams.exe but the msedgewebview2 rings a bell
n
Looking at ours now and I wonder if I'm the first to look at this in years. Seeing apps that were removed 3 years ago, lol
c
FYI if you need to update the new ms teams in the image i just remove the teams meeting add in from appwiz.cpl then run teamsbootstrapper.exe -x / check its uninstalled via get-appxpackage -name teams / teamsbootstrapper.exe -p -o pathtomsixfile to install latest version / Then run a Teams meeting add on powershell script to install latest teams meeting add in.
i think with the new bootstrapper there is a /TMA switch
n
We use App Layering, so that part is actually easy.
Somewhere, James Kindon's ears just lit on fire
🤮 1
and he'll know it was me
c
slimore optimization is now working for seamless ms teams app as well got it working
💥 1
n
That was a backend config for you, right?
c
i did believe it was a ms teams tenant powershell setting on the tenant`New-CsTeamsVdiPolicy -VDI2Optimization` but it started working without that so must of already been set. I think i needed to reboot the VDA after the virtual channel allow all policy and client after installing the teams vdi plugin
n
I'm going to be using WEM to handle the JSON config and startup task stuff. Hope it runs quick enough to actually take effect, though. Could always go user GPP if need be.
👍 1
s
fyi @c4rm0 you can use the --installTMA param now for the teams meeitng addin, and i usually leave out the -o, so the bootstrapper just downloads/installs the latest. I do have a some PS code that download and installs a new bootstrapper.exe every time
👍 1
the new 2603 CWA and teams install gave the ability to do slimcore with the pub apps
wait, maybe it was the new ms teams install plugin that CWA usually lays down, i forget now
n
SeamlessFlags set to 0x20(32), edgewebview2.exe and ms-teams.exe added to LogoffSysCheckModules, and my custom WEM script to modify Teams close (which BTW is effective that very same launch)... but the session still does not logoff. The connection is active with no actual apps listed in Connection Center.
Well wait a second. Somebody fucked up and installed OneDrive in this image. Once I killed that process my entire session logged off.
Or maybe not. Manually killed it while in session and exited Teams, session still lives on.
s
Check both hklm and hkcu run keys and confirm its not a process listed there. Also I dont think you need ms-teams.exe in the logoffsyscheck that might make it act goofy
c
this key in newer VDA versions shows you what process is blocking the logoff HKCU\Software\CitrixVolatile\Seamless\Sessions\[ID]\LogoffCheckerBlockingProcess
n
That key only shows ms-teams.exe
Well wait a second, that value changed when I closed Teams. Got a lead.
Hell yeah, found the process. John over here solving all of my Teams published app issues in an afternoon. Cheers!
c
Haha I went through so much pain when I had to get it all set up
n
Well, you saved me a significant amount of leg work helping out a friend, so I appreciate it
👍 1
My next problem is going to be how to solve for setting SeamlessFlags on just the published applications VDAs when all of these are basically in the same OU. Poor design from the start (from before I got here).
Even though I swear Citrix doesn't want us using that anymore.
j
So what was the process in the end?
n
A180RS.exe, Aternity
one of the 632 agents we have in our images
j
Security/monitoring stuff. Quelle surprise
n
Yeah, I was actually going to add it anyway just to test before I saw that registry value. Chuckled when I saw it in there.
I still want to throat punch the creator of UWP apps in general, though.
j
I'd go further than punching
m
ya'll get a room! 🙂
n
Like one of those new rage rooms where they give you bats and stuff and you can smash things?
m
yes, that'll work lol
