I have the same question as this person: https://github.com/EUCweb/BIS-F/issues/400#issue-3336931821 Is BIS-F 1912 still OK to run in 2026 on newer Citrix VDA's? Doesn't seem to be hurting anything...but is it a good idea / secure / optimal, particularly for Windows 11 non-persistent DaaS?

As it's not being maintained AFAIK, you take the risk of it breaking something as it won't have been tested

Smells like a good use for one of the better LLMs to review, and ask it what it thinks based on updated versions of windows - I know there is some stuff which impacts vSphere environments on the NIC settings which folks have been hashing out

Thanks for the follow ups James and James! We may move away from it just to be on the safe side. Any comparable projects / scripts around image sealing best practices for non-persistent Win11? Would be cool to poll this community on what all people are actually doing in their image seals. A lot of stuff is environment specific of course, but a collation of the types of actions and types of optimizations people are doing in the real world would be cool to see.

I normally roll my own these days dependent on the environment

I feel sad that BIS-F is no longer actively maintained (but also happy for Matthias). I think it adds a lot of value. Given the power of Claude etc these days, it would probably be much easier to maintain and manage, I thought about taking it on, but not sure I am the best suited to it these days. I think it should remove all optimization logic and move that back to the tools that do it best (Citrix, OSOT, WDOT etc) and just handle (modularly), vendor specific sealing processes. @Jonathan Pitre did loads of work on it back in the day, maybe it needs a few folks (if there is interest) to pick it up again and rework some things so it's always safe

I still use it, if you know how to tweak it. But I also have individual parallel scripts and slowly moving the functionality over to them as time permits. I learnt the structure of BIS-F inside out many years ago, so that part is simple for me. Claude will get you 99% there now days. I'm also happy for Matthias that he's putting time into other things as these types of community tools can be come very time consuming that you get little thanks for,

We still use it with Windows Server 2025. I only added 3(?) small tweaks to it, which I found here on Slack.

Yeah, would be great to see this expanded with modern tools like winget and whatnot as well.

Well I happen to have a Citrix project and may revive it if time permits
