One user?
Or machine I should say
m
No, all users I believe.
Oh, no, all machines (it’s a non-persistent VDI pool)
r
Oh man. The only off the top of my head at this time which researchering myself. Is use cache even while online. It will force the agent litcky split if I recall and Bypass ie4uinit Check Option
m
Here are the settings.
For to get File Operations and External Tasks to run on a Refresh, do I need to enable “Refresh System Settings” (I’m not sure what category these fall under with regards to those)
I’m having some trouble getting External Task to copy a file and a File Copy task to do the same - to work reliably also. It seemed to work once randomly (and Run Once is disabled on both). All sorts of sporatic things going on here with WEM.
r
Check if Bypass ie4uinit is checked.
j
Enable offline mode - it looks disabled and you want that on to build out the cache properly

Wem should be launching lightening fast once that cache is enabled and functional

Ah, good catch. I’m not sure why that is turned off. Thanks guys, I’ll change that tomorrow and see if that helps.

Thanks for the request! if you still have questions, maybe you can enable the debug log and send the citrix agent log file so we can check it, thanks again! https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/workspace-environment-management/current-release/reference/view-log-files.html#logs-related-to-the-agent
m
Hmm, I enabled Offline Mode and there’s no change (I even rebooted the VDIs so they were forced to download the config anew). Splash screen and refresh comes up about 2 minutes after getting to the desktop. I have a looked at the logs, and debug logs, using VUEMSAV and didn’t see anything obvious but will take another look. This isn’t the fastest infrastructure in the world but if caching the entire config, I would think the VDIs would receive the whole enchilada shortly after boot.
Noteable: The WEM Agent logs start and are written to after the initial 2 minute delay. So it’s not like the agent is starting and waiting or failing on something. For example, I logged in at 9:55am and was sitting at the desktop. After about 2 minutes watching the Agent and Agent UI processes in Task Manager, I see the Task Tray icon appear, logs are written (and look largely good) but log starts at 9:57am. 🤔

Check the Event viewer as well on the client to see what it's saying. It should tell you as well about contacting the mothership. But the debug logs should have gave you more info. For the Refresh settings on External Task, I always have to go back and read. I forget at times. https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/workspace-environment-management/current-release/user-interface-description/advanced-settings.html#agent-options

have you confirmed a healthy cache build? Are you doing anything at startup/sealing for your images at all

Check if Bypass ie4uinit is checked. and also check Agent Extra Launch Delay configuration.
🙏 1
Another thing is that the agent UI waits for the logon progress to finish completely. Check the logon time for the user also. There is the windows logon analysis tool in the latest WEM tool hub. it can be used to do it.
🙏 1
Have you checked the Citrix WEM Agent Host Service Debug.log also? If you'd like, you can send the log files(host and agent) to me so we can check. thanks!

m
@James Kindon Yes, for sealing I stop the WEM services, and delete the cache. I've had too many bad experiences over the years with cache getting wonky to not do that religiously.
@Sharp Guo Thanks for those suggestions also, I'll follow up on each one of these points as well
@Sharp Guo bypass ie4init is not checked
r
I would check that "*Bypass ie4uinit Check*." . Not to jump in. But that was what I meant early on in our convo. It's known to cause delays with WEM.
m
Oh, so uncheck it? It sounded like default is it waits for this process to occur, so checking it would speed it up, not slow it down. It was unchecked so I checked it but I will uncheck it. I've not messed with this on any other deployment and I don't see these delays on other deployments either.
Thanks Ray
r
I meant, Check it to bypass it. Sorry Multi tasking here lol
classic console, but a visual for you.
m
Yep, I enabled it (it was disabled).
👍 1
What is the default - is this usually off?
r
It's unchecked . Docs says this "*Bypass ie4uinit Check*. By default, the Citrix WEM Agent Host Service awaits ie4uinit to run before launching the Agent Host executable. This setting forces the Agent Host service to not wait for ie4uinit."
m
Yeah that’s what I read. So I turned this on and it seems like, so far, in all logon tests, splash screen is coming up much faster. And the difference was almost immediate. I’ll keep testing, but thanks - I had no idea on this particular option.

No problem 😉 . That’s why we all pitch in to help each other out. Plenty of things I don’t know myself. Glad it got worked out so far.
