what if you used your internet router a the dns

my public IP is something like 169.x.x.x, my internet router is 192.168.y.y and then the airport express is on 10.0.0.z

it didn't work. i had 192.168.1.1 as part of the DNS but it didn’t go out

You can use Google Authenticator, SMS, etc. Hardening WP is really involved. You need to do it with plugins + changes to htaccess. And if you have a NetScaler in front even more stuff you can do to help. I haven't written a guide on it because don't want to tell the bad guys all the secrets.
