I should probably added that i have 500/500 fiber internet connection and would like for the router to be able to route that amount of traffic. Read that edgerouter maxes out on 150-200? Not sure it is correct though.

UniFi which includes USG needs management. Edge is standalone but can be centrally managed as well. 

I took edgerouter as the cli is more advanced and I also needed to do some tricks for my ISP

Also edge line usually has updates first then they go to UniFi line.

You can UniFi cli and write to config. There’s some advanced stuff not in GUI.

I’ve modified my config some and wrote to config via cli.

I started with edgerouter, toughswitch, and UniFi ap years ago. Switched to all UniFi. I use USG Pro, switches, ap’s, and cameras now.

It’s a UniFi branded Xeon-D rackmount machine that runs all the management software 

It’s does not run the new UniFi Protect yet.

Mine doesn’t really notice. I have rack wall mounted in house in utility room and rack on my office lol.

I think Cloud key is integrated in home assistant as a container now

Morten go ubnt, I started small with USG, Cloudkey, 8 port PoE &amp; AP, recently convinced my farther to do the same (can remote manage from Brasil. Now I’ve expanded with 24 port PoE, Dome Camera &amp; Cloud Key v2+ with HDD for video recording

You won’t regret. I think I’ve spent at least $5000 the last 15 years trying to get better WiFi, that all ends with ubnt. I have 3 locations now with all ubnt. Before you now it you will do the same at Svigermors ;-)

Hehe svigers have major issues with wifi, so that might be the option. Atm we have amplifi hd router (somekind of ubiquti fork?) at home, works for the family and wifi experience is pretty good compared to old crap. 

So move that to Svigers and get yourself ubnt unifi :-)

Looking to replace/upgrade our Aruba campus WiFi next year and Unify might be a good alternative. Have you seen bigger enterprise deployments, multi site, maybe 100 APs in total?

I have not but on their forums people post deployment stories 

They also have APs with PA in them for EDU

I think my requirement was the opposite actually. No VLANs just a ring fenced area for airplay traffic. So all classrooms didn't see all other classrooms.

That's how it is but they wanted to be able to segregate reflector traffic without the VLANs. Apparently Ruckus can achieve this.

No worries man. You just peeked my interest. I saw some things about port isolation as a potential option. It seemed overly complex and more difficult to manage.

I know they’ve had articles but think most are around vlans. Will look when I why get some time.

I'm also running PiHole on a VM (1vCPU and 1GB RAM) for the past 2 months and it runs smooth. I think I just added way too many lists and domains to be blocked and sometimes I'm checking what's blocked and add it to the whitelist.
I'm extremely annoyed I can't block YouTube and Facebook ads :disappointed:. It's probably impossible with PiHole since the ads are hosted on the same domain as the videos.

I have run it in a Docker container on a NAS and as a VM in the cloud and ultimately migrated to Rpi a few months ago. Just wanted to have it on dedicated hardware incase of other infrastructure issues.

Gents, just remember to keep your PiHole underlying OS up-to-date. For Ubuntu you can run ```sudo apt-get update &amp;&amp; sudo apt-get upgrade -y``` then ```reboot```

It would not sync when making changes to the whitelist. If I ran the pihole-gemini manually, it would sync

got the the point of trying to play with the sudoer.d file to not require su or sudo but never really worked. so I just revered the VM back to before I was messing with it.

The sync for my use case is more of a nice to have, not a requirement. we don't have to change much.

:+1: From what I read it's a Protect/NVR endpoint. Throw it in back of a dumb display, give it power, network and you get the Protect/NVR viewing app in a plug/play format.

Nope. Not at all. You will need a unifi controller to configure the APs though. This can be a VM.

But to make the Controller look extra pretty then the USG is required (OCD here)

Once you check the controller the OCD will kick in, at least for me... Everything had to be unifi an there in the overview. But as the rest said, you'll need a key or VM or raspberry to manage the crap out of the AP's

Erm... No.... No mesh. You'll be disabling the WiFi on the current router and using the UBNT APs for WIFI instead. The USG is basically a replacement router.

You can't manage unifi devices without a controller. It's got such a small footprint though, it can pretty much run on anything.

Thought so :)    I by the way also replaced my TP-Link Archer c5400. Thing was easy to setup and wifi had by default soooooo much power/speed. Then when I switched over to ubnt I was first pretty disappointed about the wifi, had to tweak a lot to get real 5G power out of it.
