<@ULD0CTS49> It works well enough, but it's probably my tinfoil hat.  Amazon, Google and Facebook know too much about my life already.   I'm also not sure how I feel about the recent Police/Neighborhood integration where police have easy access to the footage.  I think it's based on good intentions however getting a bit too close to that "police state" for my preferences. I'd rather have the video under my control.

We talked about this at work the other day.  I’m probably not the norm, but as long as the camera isn’t pointing inside, I’m okay with it.  We have punks in the area that like to go neighborhood to neighborhood looking for unlocked cars.  I’d allow access to my external cameras just for that.

This is why I like UBNT. Everything is recorded locally and you don’t have to cloud connect anything 

Definitely. Set my parents up with UBNT cameras and a cloudkey gen2 when they built their new house for that exact reason. Been pretty pleased so far. If they do release a doorbell that would be awesome.

I'm strongly considering moving my NVR off my NAS (mix of cameras pointed at QNAP QVR) and going full UBNT cameras.  The only reason I have not yet, is the thought of vendor lock in.  I already have a G2+ CK...but got gun shy on the camera purchase.

Totally understandable re: lock-in. In their case they've already been on Unifi networking gear for years (best decision I ever made there), so figured if we're choosing a solution might as well give the incumbent vendor a swing and consolidate

Depends partly if you're willing to go with some used equipment and what sort of GPU you want to leverage. Those will be the biggest costs, depending on what sort of power you're aiming for. At least 10Gb networking has come down quite a bit in cost.

You could look at Threadripper prices have dropped. And some motherboards come with 10gbe out of the box. But threadripper is not on the VMware HCL list (it does work fine with 6.7) and most motherboards only support up to 128GB RAM. So I think for only 1500 dollars to do your complete list you have to look at old server hardware? DL380 G9 ? 

That's a tough ask man! Do you have any issues with power draw?

For 10G depending what you are looking for port wise, look at UBNT.

UBNT rocks for the price you can't beat it. Performance is good Vs price.

$1500 sounds quite a small sum for what you desire :slightly_smiling_face:

Got the sensors as well? Thats what I'm most interested in. (Kids leaving garage doors open etc)

I am working on Home Automation (Hassio) for our place, while these devices aren't natively compatible with it, with a few minor tweaks they can be.

I don’t but my coworker does. He said they work fine

The power bricks are cheap but super glue fixes them if the cap comes off. Had one unit bricked on arrival and support replaced with no haggling 

I’ve got a couple of them, love the price/quality and flexibility. They just recently added a beta service to recognize ‘people’ vs ‘object’ when monitoring for movement. Pretty neat feature

There’s custom firmware that allows you to write to a NAS and apparently there’s official firmware coming as well

Using Cameras Wyze &amp; PTZ Cam, Bulbs and Plugs now, along with home sensor kit.

What protocols are their product compatible with? Do they support Zigbee and Z-wave, for example? $20 for a camera is dirt cheap!

yea UBNT is good. I have a 10GB switch in prod for where our backup data dumps to. Used them to control costs

There is an 48 port with 4 10GB ports in beta store right. 

Not direct, through partners. Their kit is very performant though. I'm sure you'll get a bunch of recommendations in that direction shortly. ;-)

I wish their website was better to find 10GB things.
