I'm looking at an E200-8D. Single unit for dev/test of automation. My dev/test gear is so freaking slow that I'm not agile enough. Work paying for it so I have a decent budget. @User I'm looking at your blog with shopping list. That still the most current list to consider?

I'm looking to refresh my (home) lab and slowness is starting to kick my ass. When you say Dev/Test automation are you talking about testing something like build scripts across multiple VM's?

yea. it's to develop automation scripts and test them quickly with the intent to move into production. Not for home lab purposes.

constantly tweaking MDT task sequences and re-deploying the OS takes a lot of time on the gear I use today.

None of my old servers have NVME support so that's why I'm looking at inexpensive gear

heh, I've been toying with a components-build NAS with NVME as the only storage (aggregated with Storage spaces or a linux distro like FreeNAS). My wants are 10Gb NIC + Switch + mobo with three 16x PCI-e slots and some PCI-e to M.2 adapters

are you going to use VM's on that switch? or just for storage (or as a host to do both?)

    11/29/2018, 4:27 PM
    yes Automation Framework VMs

I only really need 1 server at this time so I don't see a need for a 10Gb QNAP or 10Gb switch
  • u

So 64GB per host for now
  • u

    Exactly, no need for NAS
