once we start charging USD clients, the margins would be quite healthy.

Does the above reasoning hold true for a certain size of companies ? 🤔 I see paypal, netflix, facebook releasing a good part of their work on open source. Or I am getting this wrong ??

some companies can afford to do it because doing open-source work has a signaling value to hire talent

but if you look at the state of many FOSS projects, they're starving for contribution despite delivering huge value to tech companies.

when heartbleed happened, OpenSSL had just one core contributor.

Django core team is about to disband because there aren't enough contributions.

Here's how it typically goes: if a feature costs 100$ but gives 80$ value, no company will do it. They're being rational. But FOSS means that there are probably 10 other companies deriving the same 80$ value. So something that costs 100$, but generates 80$ x 10 = 800$ of value, doesn't get funded. Classic case of tragedy of the commons.

It can be solved by outsourcing which then enables network effects. It's irrational to do any FOSS work in-house. it should be outsourced instead. polyglot is trying to be that kind of an agency.

Hi guys 👋 Need to ask you something about applying for an intern position. Do anyone have experience in applying for intern, what do you all have included? Do you send them in a CV format? Can you guys share your thoughts? I'm a JavaScript student, first time applying for an internship, and have no idea, I have no experience in applying for a job/intern previously 😇👍 #newbiequestions

Does anyone here have experience writing web scrapers on apify.com (or something similar) ? I'll pay for writing a few scrapers.
