Wrote a review of a very fascinating book on Andes crash of 1972, and survival of 16 out of 45 people on board. They were stranded for 72 days in extreme conditions, resorted to cannibalism in order to survive and made a miracle escape. There have been numerous documentaries on this topic, a movie called Alive (1993) starring Ethan Hawke, and some books. https://www.aloksharma.me/blog/book-review-miracle-in-the-andes-by-nando-parrado

Folks what are your methods for taking notes from a book. I am trying to find answers to these questions: β€’ What does your note-taking system look like? β€’ Do you take notes of every non-fiction book you read? β€’ How do you ensure that the notes you have taken are helpful to you? β€’ How often do you review those notes? What is the process for those reviews? Are those reviews purely for β€œinformation-retention” purposes? β€’ Have you tried readwise? Is it helpful? β€’ If and when you learn something actionable thing from a book, how do you work on incorporating those actions into every day life?

Thanks to all the folks who participated in the poll πŸ™‚ πŸ™ I am happy that the community gave a good chunk of the votes to the 'Paperback/Hardcover' mode (I too am one of them πŸ˜€). On the other hand, it is surprising to see a low number to the 'Kindle' mode, which brings me to my next question:
Is buying a kindle worth it? (from the poll, it doesn't look favorable but looks can be deceiving)
I understand that it's a personal preference, but the folks who have it, how has been your experience? Do you feel like you can read more? Or do you have better apps to highlight and revisit your notes using kindle or anything else?
I have been watching over some of the book-tubers, and they usually prefer (and recommend) using a kindle as it allows them to read more, take better notes and revisit them more frequently. Hence, I have been wondering if it is worth investing Rs 10K to buy a kindle?

When I want to read a book, I simply add it to "books to-read" list in my Goodreads profile. But later, I often forget what had attracted me towards that book in the first place. As a result, I don't even know why I have a particular book in my list. Do you have any idea of how this can be tackled. I don't want to maintain lust another list on notion, note-taking app etc, simply because Goodreads is just very easy.

Are there any good guide-books/non-fictions on parenting children/teenagers/infants that look at parenting not from a practical POV but more from a psychological POV? Simply books that teach you to be better parents? I am not looking for books that teach you how to change diapers, but those that teach parents how to cultivate compassion and trust in their children.

I watched the Dune movie yesterday. Was blown away by the visuals & music. Slightly disappointed by the far from comprehensive coverage of the book though I can understand that it might just not be possible.

A programmer's life can be defined in two phases. 1. Before writing tests. 2. After writing tests. After reading "Working Effectively with Unit Tests" I see tests differently now and look for ways to make them more effective. I've summarized my learning hereπŸ‘‡ https://burhanrashid52.com/2022/01/27/working-effectively-with-unit-tests/

People who have read 'Dune', I am curious to know what do you make of the book? There are so many layers to it, that everyone would have different interpretations of the story in all domains: political, ecological, ethical, religious etc. I am especially curious about what you think about the use of Arabic terminology, rituals and the liberal use of the term 'jihad'. I often fail to see the book as science-fiction but more as a fantasy. And is it justified that the writer has used so many elements from the real world, or do you instead see that as a lack of creativity?
