although the docs are all old

so you're probably better off just reading code

@hundreds-camera-24900 thanks, can be an inspiration

I have a big documentation push as the next thing to tackle
  • h
    I just suck at it
  • b
and yeah htmx is mentionned on /r/django because react/vue/etc. do not feel in their place with django

Do you have a link to your Django project template? I'm curious.

One reason I don't like JSON API based solutions is because I think that grpc is superior. But up to now I have no real world experience with grpc. Has anyone ideas or even tried how to use htmx over grpc?
  • e
Interested in this too. My two cents: Hypermedia is for human interaction, but grpc is mainly for machine-to-machine (as far as I know) communication. What would be the use case for using htmx with grpc? You can send hypermedia over grpc, but what interesting stuff can the machine on the other side do with it? I did find this interesting: https://grpc.io/blog/state-of-grpc-web/

I've used GRPC at some scale,,, and I'd say it's perfect for all backend, but not for client or frontend. Solutions like grpc-web use the same SSE/evensource mechanism under the hood, except with other weirdnesses included. Currently I would not recommend GRPC for server-client, only for server/server. That being said, it shouldn't be too hard to shim in a grpc-web mechanism to work with htmx. (https://github.com/grpc/grpc-web)

@tall-dinner-62086 its working but acting a little weird. when the link is clicked , both element (the original target element and the one with the hx-target-oob )gets swapped then the main target disaapears

hey people - I have a hx-get with hx-trigger="load". Might be a stupid question.. but.. The issue I am having is when you back into the page (back button) it is reloading instead of just showing what was last on the page. I guess this is by design but is there anyway to not have it load again if the page is navigated to by the back button?
  • m
make the load replace the outerHTML so the hx-trigger isn't in the snapshotted DOM

  • f
    Thanks! I will try that

for inter-system communication, JSON or something better is ideal. The flexibility of the REST/HATEOAS network architecture is wasted on non-human clients, mod strong AI.
