    I always wondered - how fast or slow is HTMX (or server-side rendering in general) compared to traditional client-side rendering (React, Vue, Angular, etc)? I could not find any information.

    The universal answer: it depends. However, htmx naturally handles a lot of advanced use cases (like hydration and preloading) that make it feel at least as fast as front end JS.

    i am not suggesting that we try writing a DBMonster in htmx in hyperscript, and i do not think that would be a good idea to test out performance

    Or, put another way, it’s not about absolute speed (they’re all fast) it’s about speed per complexity. Front end JS requires a lot of complexity to achieve a fast page. Htmx delivers the same speed for much less complexity.

    Yes. There are lots of things that would suck in htmx, like playing HALO. But for regular web app work? Htmx is 🤩

    looks like there is a space between the ids? I believe this is fixed in the latest version of htmx

    . Not a biggie for me, I've already started changing it to work the other way around (the triggering element rather firing an event to a classname) - it's less "spooky action at a distance" anyway. It might bite someone else though 🤔

    Ok so initial testing indicates that loading thousands of select options into multiple selects (don't try this at home folks.. this is strictly for trained stunt professionals lazy programmers) with htmx, is faster than a snot-covered racing snail. (That means it's fast. Damn fast. A ton faster than intercooler was 👍 @User ). I may still eat my words later, seeing as this is testing locally on a new M1 Pro Macbook ... but still 💪

    [HTTP] --HTML--> [Parser] --DOM--> [Renderer] possibly the most heavily optimized pipeline in history, i'd imagine close to big C compilers

    select options aren't rendered when the select is closed, it might be different with an ul or something

    Is it possible to update 2 different targets with one HTMX request? For example, I would like to update a div with the response from HTMX, but also update another div. The form button would have 2 hx-targets, and be able to update 2 different divs from one request. Is this possible with HTMX? (I use it with Django)

    me too, just discovered recently. I'm building a small project with django-htmx, probably sprinkle a bit of hyperscript or maybe alpine.

    Yea it really is, the way you can just return template components is so good. I'm sure I've barely scratched the surface too

    I had given up software engineering (career change) because I despaired of being able to do JS. Not only could I not get it to stick, I was unable to overcome my objections to the language design and the associated culture.
