in the world of software, where anything you can model mentally is possible to create, you sometimes need projects to remind you that you don't need to constantly add functionality to your hammer... sometimes you should just add a little functionality to the material you are hammering and you realize that solved 80% of the original problem.

The JS scene was trying to sell me a jacquard loom, when all I wanted was a paint brush and canvas. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacquard_machine

doesn't appear to be much of one

    awesome to hear!

    That's what I've kinda realised too 🤦‍♂️ I've taken to using -
    htmx:afterOnload
    (for success, without swapping) -
    htmx:afterSwap
    (for success, with swapping) -
    htmx:responseError
(for failure, regardless of swapping) -
    htmx:afterRequest[detail.successful]
when I want to be sure it's all done before doing anything, but not entire sure that does much other than
    htmx:afterSwap

I'm finding that html and Kirby are also made for each other. (https://getkirby.com). Kirby is a PHP-based, flat-file CMS, which is made for developers. It has an internal 'content representation' system: you can return a page object as html (using different templates) just as easily as JSON, XML or anything else. This makes doing pagination, card lists, filtering, etc. with htmx sooooo easy!

I did not manage to find how to set focus to an
    input
    element setup via
    hx:get
    . Any hint ?

Seems a long time I have not done basic HTML.
    autofocus
seems to be what I need.

I was shown this slide in a lecture today

What about software salinity, humility, and density? What an incomplete list of nonsense.
  • g
they forgot the most important attribute: unscalability
  • g
thinking back, i really should have raised my hand about that
  • g
I mean, it’s not a bad list. There are some overlaps and areas for debate (ie portability) but yeah, software development gets pulled in many directions. There’s also cost and time to market, which mature organizations recognize as legitimate reasons to start dropping these technical goals from the list.
  • g
No. You’ll just be the troublemaker. “Unscalabity” is not a very popular concept out there right now.
  • g
    "complexity" is on there
  • g
I wasn't thinking of going up to the prof and evangelizing intentional unscalability, if that's what you were worried about
  • b
I am reading Clean Code and just opened the chapter today to "Complexity kills. It sucks the life out of developers, it makes products difficult to plan, build and test" - Ray Ozzie (CTO Microsoft)

just noticed this in my web console, any idea how to figure out what the error is or get more details? things are working as expected
  • m
can you switch to the uncompressed version of htmx?
  • m
looks like a syntax error in an
    hx-trigger
    or something
  • c
i think you're right, it was a "keyup change" instead of "keyup changed"
  • l
If that software quality slide was done for htmx, it would have to also include divinity 😁

    Hello,
  • n
    I got a question
  • n
I have an image tag that is links to another page when you click the image.
  • n
With HTMX set up it works just fine.
