Maybe we could use those & put the archive online in an indexable format

I like discord for the low barrier to posting

And intimate nature

It still might be worth extracting the common questions in a QA format on GitHub though, as the chat format can still be unorganized

Yes, I'd like to have a pinned FAQ

Anyone want to contribute to the FAQ? https://github.com/bigskysoftware/htmx/discussions/679

OK, I have put together a first pass at a discussion group here: https://github.com/bigskysoftware/htmx/discussions

it's super cool to have the maintainers of a library, or ninja users, to answer in github discussions. If the community sees there is "liquidity", good supply of questions and answers, it will become popular. Although it should be promoted. Like if someone asks a tech question here, it should be redirected to GH. Just my 2c. Thanks.

That’s a bug can you submit an issue?

I’m very scared to say this (because this channel is strewn with the corpses of folks suggesting things and then being informed: “Your idea, you make it happen”)… but Stackoverflow does seem to be THE place to ask questions and get them answered. It’s SEO’ed up the wazoo, so googling for programming issues invariably results in SO hits at the top. Should “we” (this is where I fearfully look around to see if @mysterious-toddler-20573 may be lurking nearby) not make a more concerted effort to ask + answer questions on SO?

Speaking with a background in laravel programming, the framework-specific support channels have always been a better resource than stack overflow. I'm talking about their slack and discord channels, where people routinely come in, ask a question, and get an answer. Or several answers, or no answer depending on who's around I guess. Some of the questions I see are along the lines of "I found this code on stackoverflow but ..." and then you click on it and it's a 3 year old question with a sketchy solution that either doesn't work or has a much better workaround in recent versions. I realize I may be in the minority here, but I find stack overflow to rarely be more useful than searching on domain-specific communities. But again, almost my entire professional career has been laravel or laravel-adjacent, so my experience is heavily biased.

You make a good point

I really enjoy the Discord channels and know I’m always going to get a quality answer if I ask it here… but I also know that there’s some questions repeatedly being being asked…. maybe then a FAQ is the best solution for those questions that drift to the top often

Furthermore… this is a good point

forum-chat hybrid: - chat on main window, sidebar with folders like "faq", "announcement", "question" - drag message into folder to archive it - flairs, which can put messages into folders automatically - a way for reply chains to be formed automatically (instead of manually clicking "reply" / "create thread") - all messages in a thread will remain visible in chat. if you want to see just that thread, open it from the folders

so a user would post "how do I do X? #question", a bunch of people would reply to them, the replies would spiral into a whole conversation, this would appear normally in chat but also appear in the "Questions" folder in a comment chain-like format

Yes but only one thread of replies (like Stack Overflow) not an endless tree (ala Reddit)

I built a Q&A app very similar to this in Angular. I’m trying to atone for that son by doing it again in htmx.

we can decide the ideal depth for the reply tree when we actually build this

careful folks, we are getting awfully close to a rule 7b invocation

you have technically joined the conversation, which implicates you in the invocation in accordance with ¶3

ah, but sub-lemma 16c provides for "reasonable warnings regarding potential invocations of aforementioned rules"

not saying it won't go to jury, just saying

Ahhh.. the sweet smell of developers discussing a new chat application or a time management system…

google briefly had a thing called Spaces which I quite liked

you know what we need? A todo manager. in the blockchain
