New on the SaaS community channel: @Ram talks about everyone's favorite topic - multitenancy. We discuss problems and solutions across various stages of the company journey - starting with data modeling (hopefully before you start writing the code!) all the way to operating at scale across multiple regions.

The video includes a shout-out to @Jeffrey Sherman and his utterly reasonable question about testing SaaS software when some tenants are orders of magnitude larger than average: https://all-about-saas.slack.com/archives/C022S1VAK5M/p1676575600439199?thread_ts=1676347774.206409&cid=C022S1VAK5M

We discussed all things multitenant from our experience in the podcast @Gwen Shapirashared. Do folks have first hand experience with any of these or other problems around their multitenant journey? It would be a great discussion for a v2

For most people, the mental image of SEO is direct advertising. Either people think that SEO is free Google ads. Or that most people would convert on a single visit to a website. Typical thinking - You rank on page 1, they click, read your blog or landing page and then buy. In reality SEO works like this - You rank on page 1, they read your material, and you stay in their mind. Most likely they would buy on few more touches, like seeing your brand in some other channel and a lot of times even reading your other blogs that came on top of their internet search. The core of the aim of SEO is to be one of the touchpoints for a prospect to sway towards you. Ofcourse, many a times they will covert direct as well especially if your content is more bottom of the funnel. Content Marketing should be seen both a brand building channel to a higher extent. And as a sales channel to lesser extent. Results build over time. Also, we should consider SEO as a forever investment and thing. It's an ongoing process where you turn your website into a Wikiperdia for the kind of audience you want.

This is interesting - compute/compute separation in Rockset: https://rockset.com/blog/introducing-compute-compute-separation/ This kind of architecture - where the DB is split into components that can then scale independently is very "cloud native" IMO. Makes no sense if you just need some analytics (use DuckDB in that case), but is very efficient to run at scale if you are a SaaS provider. WDYT?

@Jeffrey Sherman posted about his latest blog post on "Never Rewrite" (over in #C0270036PT4), that blog is pretty good. But I wanted to give a shoutout to his 3-part series on schema design for user-defined fields in CRM: https://shermanonsoftware.com/2023/02/06/user-defined-field-implementations-for-crms/ https://shermanonsoftware.com/2023/02/09/user-defined-field-patterns-2-nosql-relations/ https://shermanonsoftware.com/2023/02/13/user-defined-field-patters-3-hybrid-relations/ The user-defined field pattern is very common to SaaS applications, so this overview is super useful.

Hereโ€™s a template you can use to create blog posts that drive traffic to your site. (Same template bringing me a combined 70k traffic a month) on 3 of my websites 1. Headline = Insanely Specific Let your reader know EXACTLY what theyโ€™re going to learn. More specific=more clicks. 2. Short Intro Keep your intro to less than 8 sentences. 3. Actionable Content Pack your post with actionable tips, techniques and strategies that people can use right away. 4. Lots of Examples Examples make your content easier to understand and use. Thatโ€™s why I use tons of examples in every blog. 5. Conclusion = CTA Ask your reader to leave a comment, subscribe to your newsletter, or both.
