I typically err on "not enough."

Perfectly high? It's not as easy to achieve as most think.

There’s a wall. The first question is, is it representative? Or actual? Representative is this:

    Actual is this

The straight line I drew, to hit that at an angle I’d have to pretend I stepped into that half space that’s technically not a space

The mirror bounce rules match doing exactly that though. So the border is a straight wall where I drew it, not a wall that follows the border of the hexes like the last pic

    11/29/2022, 5:21 PM
That’s what I mean by representative vs actual.

The hex lines are right there though. To my eye, if I have to move 2, I’d go 1 (red line), bounce off the wall that I’d hit straight into, not an angle (yellow line), and bounce back along my angle of incoming travel (blue line)

This is what happens according to the rules though. I hit the pretend straight wall instead of the visually there hex grid wall

That’s how the bounce rules work. The comment that kicked this off was me saying it doesn’t feel right to me is all

    So this is why 😄

Wait wait wait. I GET IT NOW. The edge of world is flat, not wavy. Because there’s no water pictured, so it can’t be wavy 😁

the "wall" is the real thing you bounce off of, the hexes are an abstraction.
  • k

    Kaaihn

    11/29/2022, 6:31 PM
There is no wall drawn there, but there are hexes
  • k

    Kaaihn

    11/29/2022, 6:32 PM
So the hexes are not an abstraction to my eye
  • c

    ChristopherRobin

    11/29/2022, 6:32 PM
Well, map edge then. There's an arbitrary square "edge" that defines the play area.

Ok, that's really pedantic, so I'll stop trying to help.

"Pretend the hexes that are there aren't, and pretend the straight wall that isn't there, is". lol. I get it. All I'm saying is it doesn't feel right

question, so i remember reading that you are suppose to start the encounter with maximum animus right? where is it exactly in the rulebook, can't seem to find it anymore

Page 7, setup step 14. Start encounter --> Page 8, Sequence of Play, first step: Refresh Phase --> "Regain Ability Cards from cooldown position 0 and regenerate Animus." So I think you only start with regen number of animus, at least that is how we do it!

But, nevertheless, this can be deceiving, because for example, the ranger has 7/7 regen/max Animus in the beginning, IIRC, so that can be misinterpreted to starting with a full pool of sugar cubes

I've seen a video on youtube where they played that way. and all the comments correct him that he should start the encounter with max animus available (that also makes more sense to me, since you're not exhausted yet)

But I have my own question: When doing a check as a group during story part - can you use redraw tokens? and if yes, it's our choice which player uses his?

And also, what is considered as a "basic check"? because so far every check said "survivability" or "reasoning" etc.
  • k

    Kaaihn

    11/29/2022, 10:57 PM
Yes you can use redraw tokens, it says so in the book somewhere. I don’t know exactly who though, I asked that yesterday and nobody answered. I assume at minimum it’s whoever is chosen to roll, but since it’s one person rolling for the group, I wondered if everyone can contribute redraw tokens

All non combat checks are basic. Basic just means you can’t use passive dice granted from items. White dice only. The types of basic checks have names because you can get bonuses for different types of basic checks with free company traits

A story combat check everyone can use their passive item colored dice when each person rolls. And a might check is basic, but you can use empowered tokens for that one

Any type of combat token can be used in a story combat check, not just redraws
