How long did it take ppl here to paint the brood mother and were the following bosses quicker? I realise I may have made it harder but myself by putting different colours on the little ones

I believe if you control your workflow and don't fall into the 'paint every detail' - trap, all following monsters should be around the time investment of the BM. Size and amount of minis notwithstanding.

I would say a 6-8 hours is a reasonable guess of time investment for the size of these creatures.

That is with priming, basing, highlights, drybush, base funkyness with grass and texture

I disagree a bit, you keep on working on a mini as long as you feel like you are making progress, when I had time for a super-awesome-centerpiece miniature, I poured some extra hours into it for highlights and shadings, it really is worth it. So yeah, paint every detail in broad strokes but don't overdo the details because you'd grow to hate the figurine in the end 😄

And if you are worried about time investment for miniatures just... cheat. Contrast paints, speed paints, drybrushing are all time saving techniques 😄

So I've never tried to do NMM before. It's fun to try though I think all the filigree stuff on his armor (or whatever it's called) makes this a lot more complicated to learn on. Looks alright though so far I guess?

Open to feedback or advice on how to deal with all the decoration and still get the NMM effect in the other spots when the space is so small.

Oh I never tried NMM, I never liked the idea, maybe when I want to challenge myself

Actually The Blade is an amazing miniature to practice NMM on as more details means more places you can put in the effect meanwhile hes at a scale where you can work with it. My opinion is that the hardest NMM are less detailed big areas on smaller miniatures. For example round helmets can often be an issue or for example i had a hard time with the NMM on the axes of the exile 🙂

My main issue with NMM is, (besides the lack of motivation for trying to do it myself) that I have hard time visualizing the metaliccness... metallicity? Metal-like effect of the whole thing 😄

That's what I thought too then watched some great videos from Juan Hidalgo where he uses the Darren Latham technique for NMM. After reading Daren's blog about it, it really simplified the approach that helped me with the visualization part. Juan has a bunch of these NMM videos for different colors - all are great IMO. Maybe it will help you guys too?

Should probably use a wash on the wounds

If I may make a couple suggestions - I think doing some washes over the tail and inside your sores could really make them pop as they are full of all sorts of awesome texture. Try a darker red/purple underneath the tail and something a little lighter on top, though darker than the pink you have on there now. For the sores, a dark purple wash could be awesome! Maybe do some kind of edge highlighting on the fur around each sore to really draw the eye in on those cool aspects of the model. Lastly, some earthy colored wash around the base of the bony ridges could be nice too. Looking really nice though - love the multi-colored choices on the babies!. Thanks for sharing your work with all of us!

I’ll see how it goes tonight with the harbinger. If I feel I have extra time I’ll do for sure the washes.

The tail will be a different story… don’t know what happened but the paint didn’t stick as well as I hoped so I may try after varnishing
