You can add some shade / wash over all that and I bet it ties together just fine

I like these for adding either a brown tint or green tint to the recesses for natural / nature stuff.

@Chrowl I have found for myself that miniatures that are not finished painted always look bad to me. But once they are finished, that changes. As already mentioned, it is recommended to use Shade and possibly some drybrush. And yep, most people do the base at last.

But take care with using shade on Army Painter Speedpaints, they could reactivate and loose the paint.

Yarp. My method has been doing a rough coverage of grass, dirt, roots, and rocks in their respective colours. Then hit the grass, dirt, and roots with either Agrax Earthshade (or some old Devlan Mud I'm tryna finish off) and the rocks get Nuln Oil. And then I highlight. It's been working very nicely for me.

This looks great. You’re focused on the details and not the bigger picture. Remember. People will view this from 3 feet away. Not 3 inches. You just need to to look and feel accurate and I really like the color blending. Paint up the big rat and decide later if you need to refine it or not. A crisp black rim also makes this look better. It will define the piece.

Agreed. I tend to do the base last and the final piece is some normal acrylic black around the side edge of the base. Def makes it pop / cleans up.

Has anyone had any negative experiences with Citadel contrast paints 'stripping' off their zenithil highlighting? I've noticed that some of the paints seem to just wreck the Liquitex inks I've been using. Feel like I may need to pre-varnish all of my primed models to avoid the mess it's been making on some of my recent models.

I remember hearing about this in another server, I think the issue is that the contrast is rehydrating the layer underneath. Varnish should solve this, I agree.

Don't inks reactivate the contrast paints? I've read that somewhere, or maybe I'm wrong

GW Contrast paints do feel to me like they reactivate. If I put on an application and let it dry and then touch up some areas, anywhere I touch up will be significantly darker than the other areas. It should be the same colors layered over, not a pigment doubling like it seems to be. If it's not true reactivation its something that feels similar

It's also been my experience that each color behaves differently in this regard.

For some painters, vanishing minatures before applying coats from another producer is not that uncommon
