Can you comment on water tiles and the rule in ERB, p.20 I mentioned above? Thx.

I still think the shortest way is the path in direct LOS and avoiding obstacles. If there is an effect tile in the path, this should only be in consideration if the monster has to move over it. I.e. water tiles shouldn't expand the distance, they should cost more movement. There should be a distinction between distance and movment.

They move through tiles without dodging them, but still consider the movement cost when determining range for targets

Thanks, that clarifies it. Essentially water tiles are taken into account for choosing the target but are ignored during movement.

You don't ignore the movement cost. They still pay the extra movement point to go through a water tile

Since there are 5 enemies in this encounter, when one dies, does that create a broken dice reaction?

yes, thats how it work. if you kill one, the others react

but they do not necessarily target on the Oathsworn that provoked the reaction. Only the enemy who had a die broken (if they are still alive) will target the Oathsworn that broke the die.

Cool. That's what I thought cause otherwise it's too easy.

Another question on water effect tiles: Do you take the increased movement cost of water tiles into account when determining the closest target? Or do you ignore the effect just counting hexes.

I wouldn't, but I read often they do

Yes, closest is the target that takes the least amount of movement to get in range. Can't recollect where I read that, but 99% sure that's how it was written

Story experience. We looked at the map, went south east as much as possible. Got stuck, then went in circles until time track 32. Went from 9 people to zero and one ration remaining. We still have no idea what we did wrong or what we could have done better. It was a rather frustrating experience. We ended up with enough tokens and rolled well enough to be fairly ready for the fight to come.

I admit after time track 25 I was just clicking the app randomly accepting our lostness.

The key is to use the waystone and realize you're in the upper-right of the map. Attempting to head south from there means having to follow the path to the village to the southwest of the waystone.

We should have followed the paths, we wanted to find the road but just ended up lost, stuck, and confused.

You did not lay out the map tiles on the table?

So it is true that people can reach the destination through the forest? I tried to follow a route and backtrack when necessary, etc, but after a while, there was no hope. Places I had been to already had changed, their exits were different, etc. It seemed like it was impossible to get to where I wanted to be so I just gave up trying eventually.

Yes. But it is important to use the map tiles to not get lost. 🙂

It's definitely possible. I've seen people goof up the navigation a few ways so far on Discord. Either they used the app only and couldn't mentally keep track of how things should have looked, or they inaccurately/improperly placed the tiles during the navigation. If you're using the tiles and properly placing the tiles, then it is just a matter of solving the puzzle

I definitely would recommend figuring out if you are in either of those categories though. This isn't the only time you'll be in the Deepwood.

We discovered our mistake by messing up both the app and tile layout. I'm embarrassed 🤣. Our group simply doesn't have time to redo the chapter so we're just going to take the loss and move on.

Yeah, no big deal. Glad you figured it out for the next time you enter the Deepwood.

Yeah I got lost and spammed the app until I hit the encounter, but it was a neat little mini game

It can be easy to mix up and make a mistake, but it's definitely possible to follow and it makes sense if you lay everything out correctly. I mixed up my placement a couple times by forgetting if I had laid down the map tiles for the section I was on. So I went back to the start, rebuilt the deepwood path I had followed, and it made sense again.

Chapter 4 in the books! Normal difficulty, dice only for oathsworn. Ursus (companion): 2, Cur (companion): 3, Ranger: 3, Exile: 1. Exploring the Deepwood was a fun mix-up, we got a little frustrated because we thought we'd figured out where we were but then felt lost running into the south wall of thorns. Once we ran into the bridge and the epilogue confirming the name of the village we were in, we were redeemed!

The fight was a lot different from the previous ones and fun. I feel like there could have been more unique actions for all the different tribe members. Loved the ambush from above card.
