I think that's absolutely the case, and for now I'm straddling both. It would be nice to only need one editor for all my stuff though

It makes it hard to share community developed functionality and tooling between the projects.

I'm really just using vim these days. I don't even have vscode installed, at the moment

I will need to look up some of these terms, but I get the gist. Obsidian "has one foot in FOSS" and wants to pull into proprietary where it can once it has the market share

If both were using codemirror, that would make a significant difference.

I apologize, can you give me a short overview of what codemirror is used for and how monaco is different?

I also frankly feel like the command pallet functionality / CLI functionality would be better if they were modular scripts. (TBH I need the double check project code to verify if that isn't the case ATM).

Referring to my earlier map of "note types", do you keep all of that in Dendron or do you keep some of it elsewhere?

Monaco is the code editor used by Microsoft for VSCode and other related / derived projects.

Codemirror is used by pretty much every other FOSS / Proprietary IDE.

everything you put in there fits comfortably in Dendron for me. I do use zotero for organizing bibliographic data, but it's secondary to the bibliographic notes in my notebase

but I don't make quite the same distinctions in my note-taking practice

    as you describe

Most of obsidian's plugins are codemirror plugins with some extra obsidian interfaction / function calls wrapped on top. So fairly low involvement to port.

Ah, I see. So it's the core functionality that allows you to type, save files, etc?

How do you think about it? I'm still formulating my thoughts on what works best for me

    literally the embedded editor functionality.

    Port into Dendron? Or vimscript

I have one hierarchy for zettlekasten-like "permanent" notes, one for bibliographic notes, one for outputs, and one as a technical reference

Gotcha. I think that's pretty close. Sounds close to a PARA layout

and the same scratch and journal hierarchies that most dednron vaults have

Yeah, if I'm matching patterns and squinting. It helps me have a "hook" from which to integrate new information

I don't think it's a good analog - I've tried PARA before, and the structure I have now I experience as quite distinct from it

Do you happen to have a "tour video" of some sort? I'd love to see how you keep it all in VIM

I suppose I'm giving this a lot of thought because I'm assuming I'll be using the setup for years and years and I want to get it right. But as you said, I can manipulate files and directories in the future if need be
