As @José Longo mentioned, I suppose I could have tried renaming to something else and renaming back in order to fix capitalization if I wanted, too

Hello. There are a lot of new features in Dendron and I think we need a new video introduction to Dendron itself:)

What features would you like explained?

Actually, I was thinking about updating current video course on Dendron. All features from the feature list of last N releases:) I mean if someone new comes across Dendron he should spend a lot of time for reading guides (what is not bad). But the one who starts with videos from YouTube channel could misunderstand some opportunities because it has been widely updated since then.

since you asked for it - this is a new tutorial that i'm still working on. youtube is still working on transcoding so the quality isn't there but let me know what you think and if there's something that we can add

I often watch videos even of technical info on my phone outside by the AC unit…so volume is always a concern. Your captured volume is a little low I think. In OBS you could boost the volume by like 4 to 6 db, and then run it through a compressor and limiter so it all lives in the red -3 to 0 db but never quite hits zero. Once you set that up in a profile or a scene once in OBS you never have to remember it again. (ESP if you record the process in your dendron)

It would be really nice to be able to select a template…or any note content really, to bring into a note on creation. It could be done without leaving the keyboard. Control+l movies.reviews.blues_brothers\t.movies.reviews With the \t triggering a lookup in templates.*

so this is what [apply template](https://wiki.dendron.so/notes/ftohqknticu6bw4cfmzskq6) command does

Excellent. Thank you. Dendron reminds me a lot of an old windows outliner I used to use called keynote.

don't think i've used that. when you say outliner, you mean something like https://workflowy.com/?

By looking at the screenshots I’d say Somewhat but much more in the hideous old school windows vein of software. It was a two/three pane outliner. It was similar to dendron though in that every “folder” was also a note, and you could do just about everything from the keyboard including moving large chunks of the hierarchy around the tree very easily. There’s still a keynote-nf on GitHub. Which stands for keynote new features. I haven’t touched it in about ten years or more though.

I’m by my air conditioner again and I can hear it better now. And on my basic AirPods it sounds really good as well.

I think dendron is good for non coders as well. I showed it to a friend yesterday and he took right to it.

yeah, i think so to. the problem is that its an uphill battle as non-devs have to learn a lot of new concepts (eg. version control, git, yaml, etc) to get up to speed. it's been hard for us to provide the necessary support which is why we're currently maintaining the developer focus. that being said, we welcome everyone to use dendron (and many of our power users are not devs) - its just we don't want to falsly advertise that dendron is the best thing for everyone to start using and then have people struggle with getting started

Wait - what's with the bonkers line numbers? Looks like a count-down and count-up either side of current line... What's the purpose of that? Not something I've seen before.

relative line numbers. makes it easy to navigate via vim https://koenwoortman.com/vs-code-relative-line-numbers/#:~:text=It%20is%20supported%20in%20VS,the%20settings%20in%20the%20settings.

Ok so I get how it works - what's the reasoning, in a nutshell?
  • k

when using vim, you can use the keyboard to navigate line numbers (eg. go up 5 lines). its easier to have line numbers show up as relative vs calculate them

Ha ok then. I think my brain would always be reverse engineering - "go up 5 lines" is the action and my brain would be "ok negative 5 from here is line 237" soooo yeah think I'll skip that one haha.

I had to setup my dendron workspace on a new computer. My Workspace is versioned on git hub but it has dependencies which are associated with separate git repository. I first cloned my main reporsitory, without cloning the dependencies inside. In that case, Dendron cannot work (no tree view + an error from the extension mentioning git and the dependencies). What I had to do is to clone the dependencies. Finally everything works fine. Maybe these instruction could be added to the documentation under "how to properly clone and dendron workspace and its dependencies from remote git repo".

Opened an issue in case others are running into initialization error messages in the latest Dendron (v0.100.0), with Self Contained Vaults, though the workspaces still seem to function properly: https://github.com/dendronhq/dendron/issues/3122

I encountered the same error notifications, but with normal workspace. I was hesitant to migrate to self contained vault

Yeah it's related to native workspaces and a recently added feature, we have a fix ready that has been merged already and will be out with the next release. Sorry for the trouble!

Hi all, I've created a new discussion around enhancing the functionality of note references if anyone has any feedback on it https://github.com/dendronhq/dendron/discussions/3136
