Could it be that there is a bug in naming the journal note with the date or is this a wanted change? I for example get: daily.journal.2020.10.30.md ?

I think this is logic mixed up with the folder approach. The note has also the title โ€ž30โ€œ in that case.

@User in the latest update, we updated the default date format to be {yyyy}.{mm}.{dd}. is this what you're referring to?

    yes that's right

the title of my note then automatically gets the {dd} value. is that wanted ?

    the periods (
    .
) are the seperators, if you create a note that named
    foo.bar.foo123
, the note will be given the title of
    foo123

Yes thatโ€™s fine and it was always like this. I just found it useful that I donโ€˜t have to touch my journal title after creating it. ๐Ÿ˜€

@User by default, dendron makes the title of the note be the last part of your hierarchy. in case of journals, that would be (.{dd}). was just discussing this with @User and we're also looking into other sensible defaults. is there a particular behavior you would prefer?

Don't you think that for journals whole date stamp as title might be useful?

I do. we'll probably have an option in the future to look for date-like-hiearchies and use that for default title for notes that look like journals

@User I would think the logic would be pretty simple to provide a config option for journal notes to have the entire date string as the title in the frontmatter. in fact, I would think it could even just be a single option (for example
    defaultJournalTitle
) that defaults to the note name. Possible value could include a date string?

it would probably make sense to adhere to ISO standards of YYYY-MM-DD & also possibly HH-MM-ss, the dashes being important here (bc of unicode)

I agree it would be nice to have the full date as title for journal e tries. However I'd prefer to have a config option to select the format with the ISO standard as default. People might want to use localised date formats.

If one of you would like to raise an issue to track this I will look at making the needed changes.

I'm still getting frustrations with errors renaming notes. I'm not sure if it's a file permission issue or not. If it is, im going to need help with that because my folders keep returning to "read only" status.

if you initialize a new workspace in a local folder and try to rename, do you still see the same thing?

@User for your testimonials page: Dendron has helped me organise my notes in a way that was impossible beforehand. Kevin's idea to use filenames to encode hierarchy has helped me grow a beautiful tree of content. So many notes that were scattered across different files are now organised neatly so they can be explored and nurtured. I have a better sense of the general areas of my writing and am moving much more easily towards a tree that can be published as deeply interconnected articles, and down the road maybe even books or films. Thank you Kevin.

@kevin8 for the roadmap, would love to be able to css style the graph view based on perhaps tags or rules in graph view. Here is an example of some the discussion about it in another forum. I am thinking it could use different css colrs for a concept, people, nouns, status via rules. Not sure if this is even possible.

@User That's a really great suggestion. It would also pair well with https://github.com/dendronhq/dendron/issues/261 which suggests color-coded tabs for notes/hierarchies.

@User @User Thanks, I agree it would be a complement indeed. I just submitted a feature request on github. Take a look and comment if you feel it can .... help the cause. Onwards. https://github.com/dendronhq/dendron/issues/387
