Ah. Yes. When I right click and click
    go to definition
, it creates a file called
    erin | People.family.erin.md
and opens up the dendron window for me to choose either the new file or the existing
    people.family.erin.md
    file.

Hi @User I've found a post about visualizing a Zettelkasten. I thought you could like it. https://www.alexchamessian.com/post/visualizing-your-zettelkasten/

if not, you might be using the wrong preview (see https://discordapp.com/channels/717965437182410783/735365126227493004/736960518312558613)

Hi! I thought I might as well check out Dendron as I'm using Foam myself (which im sure is something youve heard of), to see the differences and hopefully contribute ideas to both projects 😄

my thoughts of the dendron vs foam comparison:

Foam pieces together a bunch of different plugins to create a markdown based note taking experience. It's highly flexible and provides a "Roam like" way of taking notes. It is otherwise un-opinionated about note taking methodologies and is a [testing ground](https://github.com/svsool/vscode-memo/issues/9#issuecomment-658381111) for note taking ideas. Dendron is a highly opinionated note taking tool that focuses on what I'm calling "structured note taking". It provides the freedom of Roam's "every note exists everywhere philosophy" while offering structure through flexible hierarchies. To that end, we've introduced some Dendron specific ways of doing things - eg. path based lookup and schemas.

Dendron is all about letting you work with notes at scale - I created it to handle my personal knowledge base of 20k markdown notes.

I think both approaches are very valuable 😄

agreed - I think this is a space that benefits from multiple approaches, especially since the way people learn and retain information is highly personalized to a specific individual. overall, excited that the note taking space is getting more buzz lately and looking forward to collectively pushing it forward!

    > How does the dendron graph handle 20k notes? For me the original graph lags heavily with 1.5k notes

the graph view is still experimental, which is called out in the docs: https://www.dendron.so/notes/587e6d62-3c5b-49b0-aedc-02f62f0448e6.html 😅

when we talk about scale, we specifically mean that lookup continues to scale past 20k notes. by scale, i'm referring to both machine and human performance. the reason is the hierarichal structure of your notes: this partitions the number of items that both the human and the computer have to filter to get to a specific note. this is actually more important on the human side (a computer can hold 20k entities easily, a human will need to chunk it into something smaller)

now mandatory caveat that performance depends on how you construct your hierarchies (eg. if you put all your notes under a single note and effectively create a flat folder, then things might be difficult for you to find again). in that sense, its similar to how most databases scale - by finding better partitions (aka hierarchies) to more evenly distribute the information

Interesting insight. I remember TiddlyMap only showing neighboured notes up to a specific depth to make it snappy

yeah, i think that makes a lot of sense. in dendron, it might be just showing notes in your current hierarchy or limiting the number of notes at each level
