Thanks, both Kevin and @cameron 👍👍. Yes I wrote an extension but not in Java, so i need to bridge commands to improve my workflow. Manual interactions is not perfect, a bit cumbersome slow and sometimes I even forgot to copy manually before executing my code 🤦

What language is the bulk of your extension in? I’ve only seen JavaScript based VSCode extensions, but I guess you could call arbitrary shell processes from JavaScript.

I'd say requirements 1 - 4 can be satisfied, I'm mostly doing these things. If and when the issues you mentioned under 5 get resolved no idea but I haven't encountered them in my workflow

I'm on mobile atm which makes writing tedious. Feel free to dm me if you want to discuss specifics

Hello folks! I just discovered Dendron last night (by the sheer luck of Youtube suggestions lol) and I'm pretty excited about checking it out! I've spent the whole last year trying a bunch of different PKM tools after deciding to ditch Evernote, and I haven't managed to actually settle on one yet, but Dendron is maybe the most exciting one I've seen so far! I have a lot of questions already, but I should probably try to take some more time to read through the docs before I start asking away, haha.

The Tutorial is really dope. I mean, it's quick and full of info, follow it. I usually come back and do it over a few times when I forget something. Dendron really makes sense if you use VScode, or like to use VScode. I like Loqseq too, which feels more like an application, and I find myself using the links more there. But it also feels structured. While dendron feels so free-form, as you discover how taking notes works, you can refactor the system to fit. Wanna make a change. Aye let's roll. For somebody like myself (WHO HATES, and really NEVER TOOK or RE-READ NOTES), dendron is great, it really makes me think. - if you put time in, then I think you'll get something out of it.

One is the loneliest number. This node has no siblings :(
Okay, so please tell me that somewhere in the code there is a message
Two can be as bad as one
It was nice to see the Three Dog Night reference there.

The Rename Note is not updating the wikilink, please help me. It is working in the preview page, but the actual md file is showing errors. Is there some setting in VS-Code itself that needed to be changed or any other things?

Nice! I do really like the feel of writing in VS Code, which is one of my big reasons for picking up Dendron--I was already thinking, surely there must be a way to take all these handy shortcuts for jumping around code and apply them to my writing workflow too, right? I looked into Logseq, but I wasn't into the idea of everything being an outline. I do too much long-form writing for that. But yeah, the refactoring tools seem like a HUGE plus. I've been using Notion lately and it can be a pretty big headache to reorganize things in there.

Great points and yeah, there's something to keeping things as simple as they need to be. As much as I like the bullet journal creatives out there, pretty notes look cool, but who's got time for all that. capture info and go!

Just wanna say, Dendron has been an absolute game changer for me when it comes to world-building for my TTRPG campaign, which in certain is a rather off use case. but it's been so damn useful for me to just inline, create an idea, to expand off of it later.

The Notebook Kevin uses to showcase Dendron, with the notes like
    dev.l.ruby.d.boolean
. Is this one public somewhere? I really like the structure and wanted to use it as inspiration.

just coming back to comment on dendron again, I'm sure i'll have a bunch more questions but i have been searching for months for something that would just let me take notes and link them nicely. Trying so many options for writers, i took a look at obsidian, and i did not like the fact that it was proprietary, among so many other things. finally landing on dendron, it's been 5 days since i've started using dendron, and honest to goodness, this is as good as it gets for me.

i think i remember an announcement that there wouldn't be work prioritized on allowing for folder structure as opposed to filename slugs. is that right? i'm trying to think of how I can implement hot reloading using a dendron backend but alternative / more traditional docs frontend. let's take astro docs for example (i was also looking into other those, such as docusaurus or vitepress). if i want to use vite for HMR, i believe I would need to for each file system state change, run the current directory through the dendron mark down export pod into an output directory. is this an expensive operation at all? does it sound like the right approach? it seems like the folder structure is popular for most documentation frontends, but i think i'd have to maintain both in order to still allow me to use dendron properly.

the faq says something to that effect: https://wiki.dendron.so/notes/683740e3-70ce-4a47-a1f4-1f140e80b558/#will-dendron-ever-support-folders

watching a filesystem probably isn't that bad because things like the typescript compiler can do that running the markdown pod is an expensive operation though; if you could force your docs framework to just Deal With It™️ that'd be better but idk how possible or practical that is
