agreed. Tho I've never used "relation" heavily when I was in obsidian / github wiki.

I never used anything besides Dendron in this space, I'm currently moving the contents of... Lots and lots of text files (and stuff from "the guide") into Dendron, and that's one of the things that really popped to me with the "front and center" presentation of children pages and backlinks, and how tags can be utilized as well.

I spent a few hours comparing for the best tool, the tops three for me are Dendron and nb(https://github.com/xwmx/nb) and foam(https://foambubble.github.io/foam/). Idk why Foam gets more stars and forks on GitHub than Dendron. It seems just less ideal for me..

Foam is better if you don't inherently think in hierarchies and the ability to refractor them.

I also looker at zettler, but the hierarchies and refactoring of Dendron really are my jam and jelly

hierarchies and refractor are two of the three most important capabilities I'm looking for.😅

nb looks nifity, very light and minimalist

and why you think Foam is better?

Foam is better for a certain brain style

Foam is less concerned with structure and organization, and for something like notes and knowledge, that doesn't work for me.

I use vscode 99% of the time. I'm stuck on windows so emacs and vim are a bit persnickitty

I do love that with Dendron I can just start taking notes and then refractor them out when I figure out where they fit.

Yea. Although you can just rename a folder in obsidian 😂

I only ask because I never really looked at obsidian

But I don’t like it being not open source and lacking of some features

Yeah, that's a big part of the reason I did not persue obsidian much in my searching

The highest contender for me was org-roam*, but emacs on windows is painful for me 🤣

Like it will can focus on the file you open, hard to run multiple instances, and I don’t want to feel like a dumb being charged $16 monthly to use the features that should be free.

Actually I change my plan. Tomorrow I’m going to import everything from obsidian to dendron and then PR another repo (paste rich text to markdown). The publishing can wait.

I'm quite fresh to Dendron (only few days now)... and it's crazy how much of a difference a few central quality of life features make for me: - Easy wiki style linking into not yet existing pages - Note extraction with leaveTrace - Backlinks - All available from the Command Palette make for my willingness to actually created interconnected notes and content maps
