Any chance C:\Users\*\Desktop\shortcut.lnk works? This is assuming that %UserProfile% isn't an accepted variable in FSL.
j
Aha.....wildcard for the win, that should do it, thanks 🙂
d
Yes this should work, I‘m sure I have done that before. Unfortunately is doesn’t work for redirected desktops.
a
The Rule Editor uses something like
_USERPROFILE_
j
It definitely accepts it......guess I will know for sure in the morning 😉
Does the same work with other variables like APPDATA and LOCALAPPDATA (if you know, offhand)?
d
Are you redirecting the desktop folder by chance?
j
No, just looking to hide a Teams shortcut
d
For start menu entries I use C:\Users\*\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Acrobat Reader DC.lnk %AppData% doesn’t work. Maybe AppData with underscore before and after.
d
my question would be... why are you wanting to hide shortcuts on the user profile desktop? shouldnt you be hiding the apps good enough that the shortcut wouldnt be created in the first place?
redirection works with %userprofile% no problem
j
It's Teams, it drops a shortcut out on the user desktop for badness
d
Hide the teams app altogether, and im sure there is something in the "RUN" key that is putting that shortcut on the desktop
if you are just wanting to remove the shortcut that is created, not actually hide the program. I can write you up a script to do it.. and you can run it from WEM or whatever method you choose
j
FSLogix will do it, there's no problem
d
Are you trying to hide the program altogether or just the shortcut? If it is the latter I'd just figure out what is creating it, and stop it from doing it.
if the former then I think you're going about it the wrong way
j
No I'm not
Here's the official line 🙂
d
I still don't get if you're trying to hide the entire application, or just remove/hide the shortcut. If you are just wanting to get rid of the shortcut, then the "right" way to do it is to stop whatever is creating it from creating it. For example, I don't want to hide Chrome from anyone, but having it create desktop shortcuts is annoying. there is a policy I set so that it doesnt create it.
then if the user just has to have a chrome shortcut on their desktop, they can certainly create it themselves
