I guess that at the time FSLogix decided that was the default, Teams and OneNote wasn't the widely used
I always enable redirection of Teams and OneNote. If the customer some day decides to use Teams and/or OneNote, the FSLogix configuration is already in place.
n
Which container are you redirecting to - Profile or ODFC? We're still using Office 2016, so OneNote stuff is already saved to the Profile container, but we haven't made the jump to Teams yet. I was probably going to keep both in the Profile.
j
Thanks Kasper. That makes sense. I redirect as well but just wanted to see if there was any con in doing so I wasn't aware of.
Nick, for ODFC: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/fslogix/configure-office-container-tutorial IncludeOneNote IncludeTeams these are both set as 0 (disabled) by default.
n
No, I know you can redirect via GPO to ODFC, I was just wondering if everyone was actually doing that or leaving it in the Profile container.
t
We have ours in the ODFC. We treat the ODFC as disposable cache - don't back it up, etc. Recreate as necessary. The profile container we treat differently. That was our differentiation in what goes where.

^---- The same.

In my hosted shared environment I found that I have to redirect the onenote cache directories so that onenote is indexed by the search service at the next logon
t
Where do you redirect you cache directories to?
d
i redirect them to the local profile so they are deleted when they logoff
k
Is there a specific reason for that?
d
yes because in a hosted shared session, unless you magically logoff and onto the same server your search index is broken. if you redirect the cache to the local_username directory using the redirection.xml file then search does a fresh index of onenote at the next launch
in a hosted shared scenario the only search index that is saved to the user profile is outlook

Good point :)

oh man, that's good to know
that's annoying
t
@David Ott just to clarify - you don't store your OneNote data in a container, you redirect to the local cache? Doesn't that make the OneNote startup rather slow? Can you share the directories you have in your redirected.xml file? Thank you!
d
@Tim Riegler since the onenote cache directories will have different names under %localappdata%\microsoft\onenote\ but all ending with the word "cache" i added it to my redirections.xml creation script. I think I posted it here a while ago.
