My son demo'ed a PS2 emulator, which was both eyecatching and showed off peripheral support
c
Yeah but would require some CPU or GPU power this is just for office workers. The customer uses a client server app and want a demo of remote apps but we cannot install the customer software because of licensing etc
n
I loathe any demo from Citrix / VMW that shows calc, notepad, etc, etc. I wanna see the hard ones!
c
Exactly why I don’t want to demo notepad. I would like to demo something like SAP client but off course this requires a SAP server and licenses etc etc.

Doom/Quake?
u
@Chris Twiest Outlook works out well most of the time
c
Also requires a Microsoft license ;)
And I don’t think a game would work for an office worker demo
u
Not really. You can use Microsoft Office trial or if it's O365, it's quite easy
c
yeah but it's confusing, we are showing people a new modern workplace with laptops and office locally installed and then adding legacy applications trough a workspace portal as remote apps. And this needs to be a demo without the customer software. So I just build a Azure RDP tenant and now I need to publish something...... hmmm...
n
Chrome, Firefox, OpenOffice perhaps
c
i think i'm going to do VS code it shows typing and proccesing
c
@Chris Twiest when saying legacy, how many years back ?
c
No years back just NOT SaaS or uwp or msix
c
depending of your audience, vmware remote console could be one
c
Yes but requires a VMware host to connect to
c
vmware workstation nested vms ?
c
A lot of work in a azure demo. I think but other wise it would be a good example
c
another one would be Oracle BI tools but again you would need a DB for that
c
Yes exactly, it’s quit difficult thinking of an freeware app that doesn’t require a back end but shows you why you would want to publish and central manage it
c
I would go to Filehippo.com and have a quick look to see whether something stands out
k
Maybe Libre/Open Office as an alternative to MS Office.
c
you could also have something Java based. The idea would be to not have Java installed locally as it is a security risk and then have it as a remote app
k
Apache Netbeans would be a good IDE/Java application if you go that route.
c
Cool will check it out tomorrow!
a
Sql management studio or any other admin tools
c
Good one!
