Dang, Really. They can detect and block non Dell chargers. WTF man.
n
I replaced the DC port on it last night, since it could be that, and it was a cheap part ($8). This is what you have to disassemble to get to the part:
Note that the motherboard is fully disconnected in the photo, too. Of course that didn't work. Found a used Alienware power brick on eBay as a last ditch effort. Otherwise, I'm going to throw this thing off a roof.
r
Note to self. Don't buy Alienware lol
n
It was a great laptop at the time, but all of the stuff I have discovered after parts started to break has completely turned me off on them. No change I ever recommend them in the future.
r
I like Dell laptops, but I just switched to a MacBook Air and its great
n
Conversely, I got my dad a Ryzen 5 4500U powered Acer laptop before I went down this road. Fast as hell, lightweight, way more everything than he needed. He 'didn't want to have to get used to another keyboard after 15 years on Alienware hardware', so he returned it. He's on my shit list.
r
hahha that is funny man
n
Macbook? You're basically in the same sinking boat then. 😉
r
I really bought it to see what users see from a Citrix Side. Teams, Zoom and things like that. Its a bit different for sure. But I think its a solid product. Well until it breaks, then I will let you know this.
1200 bucks to really use it for Citrix. Some say its a waste. But I wanted to see what they see. Plus it helps me grow in that area
n
Totally understood. I'm not a Mac guy, but can appreciate it.
r
Same here man, Its a different system all together.
n
I was so impressed by that Ryzen that I think I'd actually consider AMD for my next build. Which is probably closer than I think. My box now is an old i7-4790K that I built probably 7+ years ago now.
Just kinda hard to justify everything when I really don't need more juice.
r
AMD rocks big time. You get alot more for the cash. But It doesn't work well for Labs in virtualized setups.
n
Yeah, but then I'd also be joining the club with the loudmouth AMD fanbois.
