A number of storage solutions have replication functions that can do this, AFAIK
r
Very true. We can do SAN to SAN replciation. My SAN in another Site isnt the same or close to the SAN holding the profile server for me in this setup. I went down this route, and its a compatiblity issues for this for me at this time. So I am going to have to do it from a guest VM level. I can replication the whole server, but I am looking to send the data from the VM in Site A to Site B. The GPO will have different path poiniting to the VM in the site.

Yep SAN replication. Windows storage replica another option depending your OS licensing. DFS-R also but that will be full copy each time (not un use) so probably won't work for what you are looking for.
If Nutanix you can use Files DR or Files Smart DR.

No Files for this tier 😞. Up and coming though. Windows Storage Replica I totally forgotten about. Need to read about this more. I know BVCKUP2 keep track of the VHDX in use and send the changes. I need to see if Windows Storage Replica can do the same, or understand how it acts if the file are in use. DFS-R from my past, seems to get hung up on files in use.

@Jarian Gibson Files DR is still only active-passive right?
j
Yes Files DR is active/passive. Smart DR is active/active but on RW on primary and RO on secondary.

Smart DR looks amazing
I like that big time
Anyone know by chance if Storage Replication from MS will bark on if a user has a open session? Example is RW file is in use by the session. I know BCVKUP2 will handle it 100%. But before I twist the arm of managment to buy it. I am looking at the MS one to find out. I am researching it as well, but just curious if you guys know.
"Because SR works at block-level, it can replicate open files" https://petri.com/windows-server-2016-dfs-r-vs-storage-replica

Yep have tested in past. It's active/passive though. Also have to watch your Windows license. They did make changes in 2019.

Ok, thanks for that information.
